Reggie Bush, Family Simply Didn't Care About USC Nation
At long last, a little justice.
The seemingly endless and positively mind-numbing saga of USC’s controversial 2004 BCS National Championship has finally ended. The final blow to the Trojans’ program? Their title has been tossed.
Already reaping the whirlwind from sanctions levied as a result of improper benefits received by former Trojan and current NFL running back Reggie Bush and his family, the indiscretions committed have culminated with the vacating of the championship from that year.
Reggie Bush was ruled to have been ineligible that season, therefore rendering USC’s title illicit and justifying its being stripped. That’s good news, but hardly a development that heals all wounds.
Bush has moved on to greener pastures and greener rewards, as well as parlayed his professional gridiron status into national notoriety for having dated a quasi-celebrity.
He’s off the hook. Now for the truly disheartening side of all the impropriety.
What about Bush’s fellow Trojans from 2004? They played no part in Bush and his family’s egregious indifference, yet are without a Coaches’ Trophy to recall their glory.
There’s also the program in general. It's been left with no championship and one big black eye thanks to a few callous and self-absorbed individuals.
And what about the entire university? The students specifically? Last, though anything but least, you have the Trojans’ fans, without whom college football at USC wouldn’t even exist.
Is either Bush or any one of his family wrongdoers calling for the cuing of violins for the innocent affected by their unscrupulous behavior? Do they care about anything at all outside of the fact that their nauseating actions were outed?
Did they ever once care about the university that gave Bush an opportunity for a free college ride to play a sport, and also acted as a stepping stone on his way to big-time money in the “Big Show”?
Will pigs ever take flight?
