College Football Pick 'em: Lisa Vs. Kristofer
Here we go with another week of college football pick'em!
Lisa is on a streak and won again last week, picking 6/10 games correctly. Justin had a bad week, going 3/10, but he's going to be a new daddy soon, so we'll let him slide.
New totals are Lise with 31/70, boys 32/70. Still not stellar numbers, but one good week can put either Lise or the boys over the .500 mark, which, when betting the spread, is pretty good.
Next up is Kristofer Green, and from everything I know, he's not expecting any new bundle of joy soon, so when I rout him this week, there will be no excuses.
Here's his blurb about himself, and I have to admit, he doesn't scare me one bit.
"I am the B/R Big Ten Community Leader and love everything college football. By day, I am the Artistic Director for a non-profit theater company in Columbus. I love combining my two biggest passions, theater and sports, here on B/R. After all, the drama in sports rivals anything Shakespeare could have come up with."
Kristofer, for whom the bell tolls? You know that third quarter ominous bell that signifies a big third down is being played? It's ringing for ya.
Kristofer is a Buckeyes fan, so don't complain about the picture. It's my way of making the guest picker feel at home while I rip him to shreds.
The games...
West Virginia -3 vs. Auburn
Lisa: West Virginia
I have seen Auburn play. It's not pretty. Pat White will not be stopped.
Kristofer: Auburn
Both offenses are struggling to put points on the board. The difference in this game is Auburn's defense. The Tigers are allowing only 13 points per game and are equally strong against the run and pass.
Kansas -2 vs. Texas Tech
Lisa: Texas Tech
The Red Raiders still have a shot at the whole shebang, and I'm not sold on Kansas this year. Bet the over.
Kristofer: Kansas
Talk about a Big 12 shootout! This should be a great game with plenty of points being put on the board. Kansas finally gets a win over a ranked opponent this season.
Oklahoma -19 @ Kansas State
Lisa: K-State
This is a gut feeling call. The Sooners are 0-1 on the road so far, and while they have a prolific offense, their D is suspect. K-State looks more balanced and should cover.
Kristofer: Oklahoma
It's a big number, but Oklahoma hasn't had trouble putting up big numbers this season. Kansas State would need to play out of their minds to even keep it close. The Sooners are just too good.
Texas -12.5 vs. Oklahoma State
Lisa: Oklahoma State
This is the one chance America gets to see if the Cowboys are for real. Upset alert: The 'Boys have nothing to lose and will play like it.
Kristofer: Oklahoma State
I like the Longhorns. I like Mack Brown. I like Colt McCoy. The Cowboys will keep it close though. I think the Longhorns win, but it will be much closer than the spread indicates.
LSU -2.5 vs. Georgia
Lisa: Georgia
I'm not impressed with either team, but the Dawgs have more offensive weapons than the Tigers do.
Kristofer: LSU
This is a tough one. I have to go with the home team in this one. Georgia hasn't been the same since Alabama knocked them around, and Les Miles seems to know how to win the close ones.
Florida State -4.5 vs. Va Tech
Lisa: Va Tech
Every time I bet against the Hokies they cover, and when I bet on them, they lose. My first reaction was to go against the Hokies, so I'm going opposite myself and picking them to cover.
Kristofer: Florida State
Virginia Tech's offense will have trouble putting points on the board against the Seminoles' stingy defense. Unless the Hokies can get a few defensive and special teams scores, this one could get ugly.
Alabama -6.5 @ Tennessee
Lisa: Tennessee
The Vols continue to stay in the games and keep it close. They have been covering the spread lately, so why not go with a winner?
Kristofer: Alabama
The Tide continues to roll. Tennessee will put up a fight and Alabama will have to get the running game going and finish in the second half, but at the end of the day it won't even be close.
Penn State -2 @ Ohio State
Lisa: Penn State
The Buckeyes offense may be a different team with Wells and Pryor, but their D is not—the Bucks cannot defend against a spread or high-octane offense. See USC or Florida for further explanation. The Nits by 12+.
Kristofer: Ohio State
The Buckeyes looked strong and seemed to have found their offensive rhythm last week, but it will be the Buckeye defense that comes up big in this game. The Buckeyes are forcing a lot of turnovers and turning them into points, and that could be the difference.
Oregon - 4.5 @ Arizona State
Lisa: Oregon
ASU went down the tubes after losing to Georgia. The slide continues against the Ducks.
Kristofer: Oregon
Before the season started this game would have been considered a pivotal Pac-10 matchup. Now, not so much. Oregon has its problems, but ASU's problems are much bigger. Oregon wins by double digits.
Tulsa -23.5 vs. Central Florida
Lisa: Central Florida
I know the Golden Knights stink, but Tulsa is due for a letdown, and this game has trap written all over it.
Kristofer: Tulsa
Tulsa is averaging 56 points per game. Central Florida is averaging 17. You do the math.
