NBA Draft 2011: 5 Teams Most Likely to Wheel and Deal on Draft Night
The NBA Draft will see some trades throughout the course of the two rounds. Some candidates are more likely than others.
The draft is where you build your team in most cases. It is also where you may find a diamond in the rough.
These are the five teams that will be looking to wheel and deal on draft night.
No. 5: Sacramento Kings
1 of 5
The Kings will probably stay at home with the seventh pick and select Kemba Walker. If Walker is their choice, they may have to move up to get him.
They are looking for an exciting player that can carry a team to a championship. College is much different than the NBA but Walker did just that for a young Huskies team this past season.
Walker is a winner, plain and simple. His heart and desire is something that will translate to the NBA.
He may not have a specific position but he will provide a buzz around the city, and that is something that they desperately need.
No. 4: New Jersey Nets
2 of 5
The Nets have made it apparent that they want to be a contender. They traded for Deron Williams during this season to help solidify their guard position.
Where will they go in the 2011 NBA Draft?
They hold the 27th pick in the first round.
They may be willing to trade up 10 spots to get a Klay Thompson, Jordan Hamilton or Marshon Brooks.
No. 3: Portland Trail Blazers
3 of 5
Managent has said that they will explore every avenue to help improve the team. With Brandon Roy not being healthy and Andre Miller not getting any younger, will the Trail Blazers trade up to go after Kemba Walker?
Walker isn't a point guard but really isn't a shooting guard either. He is a winner, though.
Walker would be a great fit in Portland to an already stacked Western Conference squad.
The Blazers could package Andre Miller and the 21st selection for a point guard. Whether it is Walker or somebody else, the Blazers want a young point guard.
No 2: New York Knicks
4 of 5
New York sits with the 17 pick in the draft, and is looking for some compliment players to Carmelo Anthony and Amar'e Stoudemire.
Could the Knicks really go after BYU's Jimmer Fredette? Possibly.
Could you imagine Jimmer at Madison Square Garden? This is the type of atmosphere Fredette could excel in because he wouldn't be the lone option.
His penetration could help set up Anthony and Stoudemire. The attention that Anthony and Stoudemire get could leave Fredette open for jumpers. Although, their defense wouldn't get any better, the selection from an offensive standpoint makes sense.
They may stay at home and take Josh Selby, but at least we know what Fredette is capable of. Selby didn't do anything at Kansas and is a high risk high reward type of player.
No 1: Minnesota Timberwolves
5 of 5
The Timberwolves carry the second and 20th picks of the first round in the NBA Draft.
Derrick Williams will most likely be sitting on the board when they pick second. The problem is that they already have Kevin Love and Michael Beasley.
So what do they do?
A major possibility is to deal the second pick of the draft to move down and gain a future pick. Any team that is sitting behind the Timberwolves that needs a big man could be in contention for a trade.
If they do keep the talented power forward from Arizona, they still have another pick in the first round to build their team around.
If a player like Donatas Motiejunas is on the board when they select 21st a trade could be in the making. If a team is interested in Motiejunas, the teams could swap picks and the Timberwolves could grab a future pick.
The Timberwolves are the most likely team to trade on draft night. Expect them to trade for a future first round draft choice.
