EPL Transfer Rumors: Gareth Bale and the Top 10 Players That Could Switch Teams

Dan RenfroJun 1, 2011

The transfer window can cause players to move freely among a variety of teams.

For this article, I have ranked ten players that have been linked to other teams in the Premier League. Some are unlikely to move, some are probably leaving and others are positively heading to a new team.

Obviously, I probably missed some players, but feel free to let me know who you thought should have made the list, or let me know if you thought my rankings were off.

10. DJ Campbell, Blackpool

In his second stint in the Premier League, DJ Campbell had a breakout season for Blackpool.

As one of the most exciting teams to watch, Blackpool used Campbell as a great striker, and he netted 13 goals for the relegation-bound squad.

With the Seasiders dropping, they will be looking for some money for their players.Campbell is one of them.

Sunderland have been looking for a new striker since losing Darren Bent, and Steve Bruce has targeted Campbell.

After such a great year, I think Campbell belongs in the Premier League, which will more than likely happen.

9. Sebastian Larrson, Birmingham City

Sebastian Larsson is another Steve Bruce target.

The free kick maestro had a successful stint at Birmingham City, but he will be looking to play in the Premiership next season.

Unfortunately, that is not going to happen for Birmingham City.

The midfielder can do a lot of things, and he would do a great deal in helping Sunderland's attack.

He seems to be their top target, and I think he will end up being a Black Cat next season.

8. Daniel Sturridge, Chelsea

I think Chelsea need a few more strikers, don't you?

Daniel Sturridge was always the striker of the future, and now, he seems to be a thing of the past.

He has a knack for scoring goals, but Chelsea have their sights set on (what they think are) bigger and better things.

After a successful loan to Bolton, it is almost certain that Sturridge will permanently join the Wanderers.

His eight goals in 12 appearances was outstanding, and if he maintains half of that pace, he will have himself a very successful season.

7. Charles N'Zogbia, Wigan Athletic

Charles N'Zogbia is another player that is too talented to leave the Premier League. Although he started slow, he had another solid season.

With Wigan Athletic dropping, they will surely be shopping N'Zogbia. A lot of teams are looking like suitors, but I wouldn't be surprised if his former club, Newcastle United, made a serious move for him.

He can score and/or create goals out of nothing, and he is a workhorse. Both of those characteristics are mainstays in the Premiership, which is why some team will make a move for him, soon.

6. Dimitar Berbatov, Manchester United

So the Premier League's leading scorer didn't play consistently after January?

Wait, what?

That is exactly what Dimitar Berbatov did this past season. He scored an incredible amount of goals, but he slowly fell out of the lineup.

While he still racked up 32 league appearances, most of his post-January appearances were as a substitute.

Personally, I think he is a lazy player that makes a living off others' work. Either way, the man finds the net, and isn't that the most important thing?

Spurs have been in talks with bringing him back to White Hart Lane, and he could provide them with a finisher that they sometimes lack.

5. Charlie Adam, Blackpool

After becoming the darling of the EPL last season, Charlie Adam's Blackpool are heading back down.

Now, do they let their captain stay in the Premiership, or do they try to climb back up with him next season?

It's a tough call, but I think Adam will want to stay in the EPL.

He netted an impressive dozen goals last season, and he could help a vast number of clubs in the midfield.

Aston Villa, Liverpool and Manchester United have all been linked to the Scottish international, but I think Liverpool are the most serious about bringing him in.

The jury is out on where he will play next year, but for whatever team he plays for, they will appreciate his hard work and goal-creating ability.

4. Scott Parker, West Ham United

So, the Football Writers' Association Player of the Year was on the worst team in the Premier League?

Wow.

That's how good Scott Parker was last season.

He is a consistent midfielder, and he is a tremendous leader. While West Ham United provided him with a good home for four seasons, it looks as if he will stay in the Premier League as the Hammers drop.

A handful of teams have been linked to Parker, but it is too tough to predict where he will end up. Any team in need of midfield help could use him, and they will be extremely satisfied once he is there.

3. Leighton Baines, Everton

It appears that Leighton Baines is all but gone from Everton.

The English left back has become a target for both Liverpool and Manchester City (among others). Clubs like that can pony up enough money to bring in anyone they would like.

Baines is someone everyone would like.

He is slowly becoming one of the best left backs in the world, and at 26, he has plenty of good seasons left.

Everton is asking a pretty heavy price, but I'm almost positive that some club will make the buy.

2. Ashley Young, Aston Villa

Ashley Young has become somewhat of a face for Aston Villa.

That is about to end.

Sir Alex Ferguson has Young in his sights, and Fergie usually gets what he wants. Young is one of the most talented young players in England, and Ferguson would like him being successful for Manchester United.

After struggling once they lost James Milner, it will be interesting to see how Aston Villa react to losing Young.

It's tough to watch them struggle, but I think they could be in for another long season.

1. Gareth Bale, Tottenham Hotspur

Is there a big-name club that hasn't been linked to Gareth Bale?

While there are a handful of teams outside the Premier League targeting him, Bale could end up at Manchester City or Chelsea, simply because of the amount of money those teams will throw around.

He is an exciting winger, and when healthy, he is one of the most dangerous players in the world.

I would like to see him remain at Tottenham Hotspur and turn them into a perennial contender, but I just don't think that is going to happen.
