Oregon Football: Breaking Down the Opening Game Uniforms for the Ducks

Before the Oregon Ducks were competing for national championships they were know around the country for their ever changing jerseys. 

Although fans have had mixed feelings about each set of jerseys, no one can argue that the publicity hasn’t helped the program.

This season Oregon will have the privilege of debuting their 2011 jerseys in front of a nationwide television audience in Dallas Cowboys Stadium.  The Ducks opponent for the opener will be the formidable LSU Tigers who have been a power in the SEC for decades. 

LSU ended the season strongly last year, finishing in the top ten, and will look to carry that momentum into this season.

The game between the Ducks and Tigers will no doubt be a great one but no one knows which team will emerge victorious.  One thing that most fans can agree on is that the Oregon Ducks are going to run out of the tunnel with the best uniforms on the field.

Since Oregon is considered the “home” team for the game they will have a plethora of jersey options to choose from.  But the question remains, which jerseys will they wear on September 3^rd in Dallas?

Prior to last year’s national championship game the Ducks unveiled two new jerseys that were slightly different from the ones they have worn for the past two seasons.  The style largely remained the same with the trademark wings on the shoulders but the color scheme had shifted away from the traditional green and yellow.

The new colors of choice were silver and “electric” yellow.  The uniforms resembled the ones that they wore in their victory over Oregon State in the Civil War but with a bright new yellow that is very different from the Ducks traditional yellow.

Although these uniforms did not yield a victory in the national championship the players loved them.  Since Oregon will be the home team against LSU they will not be wearing the white jerseys from their game against Auburn.  With that said I believe the Ducks will use the same electric yellow to accent their jerseys.

When Nike unveiled the jerseys last January they also unveiled a gunmetal-grey uniform with the same color scheme.  Oregon has not worn these jerseys in a game yet so what better time would there be than the first game of the 2011 season.

After ending last season on a sour note, the Ducks are going to come out hungry against LSU.  For Duck fans hopefully the season opener will set the tone for another wonderful season, culminating in a national championship victory.
