LeBron James Better than Michael Jordan?! In Some Cases, He Could Be!

Sylvanus UagborMay 27, 2011

Scottie Pippen's recent remarks about LeBron James being the greatest player ever have caused a huge uproar on Twitter and through the media.

Can you really compare the self-proclaimed King James to the one of one, Michael Jordan? In some cases, yes!

Not only can you compare LeBron's stature to MJ's, but you can compare their off-court presences. Michael's evolution of the game was unprecedented; however, when James arrived to the NBA, he didn't evade his greatness. Better yet, he allowed his uncanny personality and talent on the court increase his followers, and further compare him to the one and only.

Is it ludicrous to compare Michael and LeBron? No.

James' overall impact on the game of basketball has evolved the NBA. His athleticism, speed, strength, agility and overall brand have generated millions, if not billions. Every Fortune 100 company wants a share of the LeBron James brand. He has already bought a share in the world-renowned Liverpool soccer team—at the age of 26.

LeBron James' basketball IQ is in the top-tier echelon; his unselfishness allows average players to look above average, hence the players on the Cleveland Cavaliers; and his decision to go to the Miami Heat has proven to be the best decision he has ever made, besides leaving St. Vincent St. Mary after graduation.

At some point in time, Kobe Bryant was compared to Jordan, but has since lost that luster due to LeBron James. Why?

Since Kobe arrived to the league, he's continued to idolize Jordan, without putting his own flare to his game; he hasn't done anything substantially different that has allowed him to one-up Jordan. Bryant has five championships, one Most Valuable Player award. The difference between LeBron James and Kobe Bryant is the substantial effect each has on the game; while Bryant idolized Jordan, LeBron has built a legacy with his own flare—and fans love that.

LeBron has proven that he doesn't need to win six championships to be labeled the best ever. Peyton Manning doesn't need four championships to be considered the best quarterback ever. Both have had an overall impact on their sport that has transcended to high school and college.
