English Premier League Transfers: 5 Players Who Will Leave England This Summer

Stefan GouyetMay 26, 2011

This season in the English Premier League has been filled with suspense, drama and fantastic matches. Many new and old players have showed their worth this campaign, while others haven't had their best of years.

With the summer transfer window just about open, teams will be ready to transfer their players as well as accommodate new faces. Here's are five players who could leave the EPL this summer.

Cesc Fabregas

This one is certainly a no-brainer. For the past few years, the Fabregas to Barcelona saga has been non-stop. Just when you think that the deal has been made, Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger decides to keep his talismanic midfielder. But with Arsenal again finishing trophy-less, Cesc may feel inclined to pursue the chance of joining the Blaugarana. A deal may finally be reached this summer.

His obvious destination is Barcelona, but rumors have also linked the Spaniard with Real Madrid. The two Milan clubs may also be interested in Fabregas.

Wayne Rooney

This is certainly a less obvious and popular decision. Rooney had a dip in form around last March and the downward slope continued until around February this year when he started showing signs of his old self. But his return to form (or close to return) still doesn't cover up the fact that his season has been quite bad on the whole.

Eleven goals in this campaign compared to last season's 26 (in the EPL). In addition, few Manchester United fans will forget Rooney's desire to leave last October. Some may forgive him as the English forward started to score goals after that, but his relationship with the Man U supporters will never return to normal.

The rumors linking Rooney away from Old Trafford have almost completely quieted down since January, when he was tied with Chelsea, Manchester City, Barcelona and Real Madrid (many others too). Still, the two Spanish clubs, as well some Serie A clubs, could be his future destination.

Carlos Tevez

Tevez has had a bizarre season at Manchester CIty. The Blues purchased him from their city rivals in 2009 and had a great debut campaign, scoring 23 league goals. But Tevez's second season at City was significantly worse. At various points over the course of the campaign, Tevez expressed his desire to leave the club though his current aspirations aren't completely clear.

Tevez could literally move anywhere. Spain and Italy may be the most likely destinations, but there's no certainty that the Argentinian will even play in Europe next season. He may choose to return to South America, possibly to his former club Boca Juniors.

But no matter what, if Tevez clearly states that he wants to leave Eastlands, he will be targeted by lots of clubs.

Many Chelsea players could be on their way out of London this summer. After a trophy-less season for the Blues, it seems that Ancelotti will be followed by many others. Malouda may be one of them. He is still a player that teams will want to get a hold of. Of course, his age (30) will probably divert him to a smaller club.

There were rumors of a potential deal for Malouda...to Hercules. This deal will certainly not happen now with Hercules suffering relegation from the Spanish Primera. Juventus are also linked with the midfielder. Again, Italy and Spain are his most likely destinations.

Andrei Arshavin

Arshavin was signed on deadline day of the 2009 winter transfer period. Like Tevez, his first season was good (Arshavin's first season was a half-season). His four goals against Liverpool that season showed that Arsenal had made a good purchase. His second season was good as well, with the Russian scoring 10 goals in 30 appearances. Unfortunately, things haven't clicked as much this season.

With injuries coming in abundance for many of the Arsenal players, Arshavin played 37 out of 38 EPL games, even though the former Zenit man didn't play too well throughout the season.

Arshavin could go back to Russia; Zenit may be happy to re-sign the midfielder. Otherwise, Juventus are reported keen on getting the 29-year-old.
