Premier League Week 8 Winners and Losers

Another look at winners and losers in Week 8 of the English Premier League.

Winners

Hull City
Sitting in third place after eight weeks is more than Hull’s more optimistic fans could ever have wished for. With 17 points, Hull have almost 50% of the points needed to avoid relegation. With games coming up against West Brom, Stoke, Bolton, Sunderland and Middlesbrough, Hull has a chance to get to 30 points by the end of the year.

Big Four
Played four, won four, scored 15, conceded 3. Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United are starting to separate themselves from the rest of the teams in the Premier League. The scariest part for their opponents is that they are all doing it with significant injury lists. At this point in the season it would take a very brave man to bet against English teams dominating the Champions League, just as they did last year.

Liverpool
Liverpool just refuse to lose this season. The remarkable feature of their unbeaten run is that Liverpool have only twice been leading at the 75th-minute mark. Snatching victory from the jaws of defeat is becoming a hallmark. These late victories mean that Liverpool have 20 points after 8 games instead of 14 or 15. That is the difference between challenging for the title or being stuck in 4th place.

Losers

Spurs

The horror show continues for Spurs fans with yet another terrible loss. Spurs next three league games are against Bolton, Arsenal and Liverpool. Spurs will be lucky to get three points from these games, meaning that after 11 games they will be stuck on five points, and the gap between them and the other relegation candidates will have grown even more. If Spurs lose to Bolton this week, Ramos will have to go. Tottenham is not too good to get relegated.

Everton
Everton under David Moyes have been successful because they are hard to score against. Well Everton have now gone 16 matches without a clean sheet and have gone from European contenders to just another middle of the table team.

Fulham
Fulham are without a goal in open play in six matches and counting. I do not understand what Roy Hodgson has against Clint Dempsey. Dempey will at least give them some attacking options from midfield which is something that they are desperately missing.
