Dez Bryant and 6 Cowboys Who Will Make the 2011 Pro Bowl
If the Cowboys have nothing else, they have talent. There is quarterback Tony Romo, running back Felix Jones, receiver Miles Austin, tight end Jason Witten, punter Matt McBriar, and so many more.
You may not be a Cowboys fan but you can’t deny the amount of flair on that team. Play around all you want with Tony Romo but if the Cowboys were to every let him go your favorite NFL team would break the bank trying to sign him.
Face it, Tony is one of the league’s best to do it right now and if you’re the Redskins, Seahawks, or even the Raiders you’re praying for a quarterback like Romo.
On the defensive side of the ball there is DeMarcus Ware, Jay Ratliff, and Mike Jenkins. You may not like Mike Jenkins but he’s made a Pro Bowl which means that for at least one season he was one of the best at his position.
So who will the ‘Boys send to Hawaii next season? Here are seven Cowboys that will make the trip to Aloha Stadium in 2012.
Dez Bryant
1 of 7
Bryant is poised for a breakout season. He had a great rookie season but because it was cut short due to injury we were never able to see all of what Dez was cable of doing.
With Dez coming back healthy and determined to prove all of his detractors wrong we should see a huge season from the former Oklahoma State star.
Tony Romo
2 of 7
Romo is going to turn into a perennial Pro Bowler. I expect Romo to start the season healthy and it end it that way as well. With a re-tooled offensive line in front of him and a stable of young running backs behind him Tony will have enough firepower to rival the NRA.
He’ll probably toss more than 30 touchdown passes, log over 4,000 miles on his throwing arm, and make another Pro Bowl.
Still—Romo probably won’t receive the credit he deserves even if he fails to record a turnover next season.
DeMarcus Ware
3 of 7
Ware is the NFL sack leader now. He led the league in quarterback takedowns last season and as the ‘Boys continue to grow and gel on the defensive side of the ball Ware's sack total will no doubt improve.
Look for the former Troy Trojan to have another double digit sack season which will allow him to make his sixth consecutive Pro Bowl.
Matt McBriar
4 of 7
He’s one of the most underrated players on the Cowboys and in the NFL. He has two Pro Bowls under his belt, one in 2006 and 2010, and it's all because of his leg.
Team owner Jerry Jones signed him to a five-year, $8.5 million dollar contract extension in 2007 that included a $2.5 million signing bonus.
Not many punters can pull bank like that and McBriar deserves every single penny of it.
The real Matty ice averaged almost 48 yards per punt and boomed one 65 yards last season.
Matt will make his third trip to Hawaii in 2012.
Miles Austin
5 of 7
He can run for miles, and miles, and miles, and miles… That never gets old. Miles Austin is one of the league’s best receivers. He came up in Dallas, developed in Dallas, and became a star in Dallas.
Austin has breakaway speed and deceptive strength that allows him to get enough separation to make a big play.
Again, Austin should rack up the receiving yards and touchdowns to make his third consecutive Pro Bowl.
Felix Jones
6 of 7
Felix should be the featured back in Dallas next season and that should allow him to have a breakout season. He answered some of the durability questions last season but he’ll have to do it again this year to quiet the critics.
Jones has to much talent, speed, and strength to go away quietly into the night with my prediction of 15 touchdowns and over 1,200 total yards in 2011, Jones should be a unanimous choice for the Pro Bowl.
Jay Ratliff
7 of 7
Ratliff is a three-time Pro Bowl selection dating back to 2008. He’s one of the most athletic nose tackles in the league and his size allows him to maneuver around the line of scrimmage pretty well.
That’s also can be one of his biggest weaknesses because he’s often swallowed up by larger offensive linemen who have a significant weight advantage over the 300-pound defender.
Even with all of that Ratliff is still able to cause problems for opposing offenses. He’s quick, has great footwork, and a motor that never turns off. Look for Ratliff to have another solid season and make his fourth Pro Bowl.
