2011 NBA Draft Order: Top 2-Player Combinations Cleveland Cavaliers Could Take
The Cleveland Cavaliers have the first overall pick in the 2011 NBA draft, and with two picks in the top four selections, they appear ready to make a legitimate attempt to reshape the team.
Although most continue to debate between Kyrie Irving and Derrick Williams for the top overall spot, either player would make a phenomenal choice for the Cleveland team that could use help at both the point guard and power forward positions.
In a watered down draft pool, the Cavs truly hit the lottery.
5. Derrick Williams and Kemba Walker
1 of 5
This might be the least attractive option on this list, but by no means does that make it a bad one.
If Derrick Williams is the highest-rated player on the Cleveland draft board, there's little doubt that they're going to give Kemba Walker a long, hard look at fourth overall considering his history of winning at UConn.
Should the team be serious about turning around their recent fortunes, perhaps the electricity generated by all of the buzz surrounding Kemba would be a good way to do it.
4. Kyrie Irving and Jonas Valanciunas
2 of 5
Kyrie Irving might not be the next Derrick Rose, but frankly, most people didn't even expect Derrick Rose to become the player that he has blossomed into during his NBA season.
Pairing him with a legitimate stud in Jonas Valanciunas would help to fortify the Cleveland front line, which desperately needs help in the middle. They need a center capable of playing from day one, and Valanciunas can be exactly that for the Cavs.
With a highly talented point guard and a freakishly athletic center, the Cavs may just be a scorer away from becoming a very competitive team once again.
3. Kyrie Irving and Jan Vesely
3 of 5
Jan Vesely was viewed as the favorite to go fourth overall to Washington had the Wizards landed in that slot, but now that pick belongs to Cleveland.
While it's possible that they opt for this European talent over the crop of others, Vesely plays mostly small forward, which isn't viewed as a major area of immediate concern for a depleted Cleveland team.
He might be one of the biggest steals in the draft due to the fact that some clubs express hesitancy to nab him, but if paired with Irving in Cleveland, he could be very special much sooner than expected.
2. Derrick Williams and Brandon Knight
4 of 5
If you're a Cavs fan, how can you not like this lethal combination?
Yes, the team passes on Kyrie Irving in the top spot, but so what? They roster an elite power forward in Derrick Williams who is NBA-ready right now, while still nabbing an elite point guard who may very well wind up becoming the most prolific from his class.
Cleveland has a lot to be excited about if the Cavs decide to go this route and make Knight and Williams the new faces of the franchise, but there's one scenario that's even better.
1. Kyrie Irving and Enes Kanter
5 of 5
How does a starting five that includes Baron Davis and Anderson Varejao sound to you?
That's what I thought.
Irving and Kanter have the possibility to form something very special. A prolific point guard paired with a young center who possesses sky-high potential, the premiere pairing on this list could turn the downtrodden Cavs franchise around as soon as next season.
They're certainly not going to do it alone, and it may take some time to adjust, but if I'm sitting in Cleveland's war room after acquiring the first and fourth overall picks, this is my ideal scenario.
