BCS Championship Game Projections '11: The 10 Most Probable Blockbuster Matchups

Carl StineMay 5, 2011

Some match-ups generate more interest than others.

These are the most likely BCS National Championship games that would generate huge hype and a ton of interest on a national level.

Let's face it, the SEC should be counted on to represent in the NCG, simply because they have been present at every NCG since 2006.

But if the SEC beats up on each other too much, who will go?

What about Ohio State, can they make it if they are not on probation?

Check out these match-ups that would be sure to be more than entertaining.

10. Stanford Cardinal vs Boise State Broncos

1 of 10

The east coast media would love this one, featuring two west coast squads.

Talk about a marquee match-up, this one would pit two probable Heisman finalists in Kellen Moore and Andrew Luck in a showdown for the title.

Both of these teams have a very good shot at going undefeated, and if Luck plays to his potential this season, it would be a match-up of the best QBs in the country.

9. Oregon Ducks vs Virginia Tech Hokies

Neither of these teams has particularly large television markets, so ratings gurus might not like this match-up, but it would be an incredibly entertaining battle.

Should Va. Tech make it to the ACC Championship unscathed, they will have a battle on their hands, but a national championship chance is a very real possibility for them.

Logan Thomas has the talent to take over for Tyrod Taylor at QB, and RB David Wilson is one of the most explosive guys in the country.

Match the Hokies offense with the Ducks offense and you have an offensive explosion.

8. LSU Tigers vs. Florida State Seminoles

3 of 10

LSU would have a home game, for all intents and purposes, in this one.

While Les Miles has the talent and sometimes seems to have the coaching skills to make it to this game, the play of his quarterbacks during the season will determine where the Tigers end up.

That being said, this match-up would be a dream for fans of hard hitting, speedy defenses, as FSU linebacker Nigel Bradham is one of the most explosive players in the country.

Jimbo Fisher has the 'Noles headed the right direction, and a meeting between these two team would be a great way to end the season.

7. Ohio State Buckeyes vs South Carolina Gamecocks

4 of 10

Insert obligatory Tressel joke here:

Even without Pryor, Herron and the rest of the tattooed posse, the Buckeyes will still be tough to beat.

Now assuming the NCAA does not put them on probation before next season, OSU will be the team to beat once again in the Big Ten.

South Carolina has enjoyed fair to moderate success during hte Steve Spurrier era, and this season may be his best team yet.

This would be a little bit of a long-shot match-up, but it sure is a good one.

6. Boise State Broncos vs Oklahoma Sooners

5 of 10

Sooner fans should be itching for this match-up to get revenge for that infamous Fiesta Bowl, while Boise State fans would finally get to cheer for their team in the Championship game.

Kellen Moore and Doug Martin lead the Broncos' potent offense.

Even though BSU changed conferences, they shouldn't have too much difficulty going without a blemish and earning their way to this match-up.

5. Florida State Seminoles vs Alabama Crimson Tide

6 of 10

Alabama running back Trent Richardson is quite capable of handling the starting duties, and 'Bama will have a solid offense, regardless of who starts at QB.

If the defense remains consistent, particularly along the D-Line, they could escape SEC play unscathed, and make it to the NCG.

The FSU defense leads the resurgence of the program, and with E. J. Manuel showing some consistency at the quarterback position, the 'Noles look tough to beat.

They will have to navigate a tough early game against Oklahoma, but if FSU wins that one, this match-up is a distinct possibility.

4. Oklahoma Sooners vs. LSU Tigers

7 of 10

"Big Game Bobby" vs "The Mad Hatter"

If both of these team somehow navigate the treacherous pitfalls of their respective conferences, this one would be fun to watch.

With LSU's tough schedule, and Oklahoma's recent penchant for losing conference games, this one might be tough to see happening.

However, while the Tigers have questions at quarterback, just remember that Matt Mauck led them to a championship...

3. Oklahoma State Cowboys vs. Oregon Ducks

8 of 10

Headline following this game:

"Ducks Soar in Highest Scoring Game Ever".

Basically, the NCAA should just put together an All-American defensive team, then these two teams take turns to see who scores the most.

The Ducks play some semblance of defense, so in a high scoring context between these two explosive offenses, they might have the advantage.

This would be a nightmare for defensive purists.

2. Oregon Ducks vs. Florida State Seminoles

Here's a good one.

High flying, explosive offense, meet hard-hitting, rock-solid defense.

The Ducks will run people to death all season with that high-octane offense.

A meeting between these two teams, to see Jimbo Fisher battle it out with Chip Kelly, would be a phenomanel way to end the season.

What the heck?

Let's just throw LaMichael James and Nigel Bradham in an octagon and be done with it.

1. Oklahoma Sooners vs. Alabama Crimson Tide

In the premiere match-up of the year, two great schools with storied histories would meet in New Orleans to battle it out.

Saban and the Tide look set for a run after spring practice, but it's hard to tell with the SEC.

Oklahoma's explosive offense, led by QB Landry Jones, is going to put up all kinds of points this season, and if the defense can stay consistent, they will have little difficulty winning the Big XII.

Should Nick Saban's boys meet up with Bob Stoops's posse in New Orleans, it would be one of the biggest blockbusters of the year.
