WWE Extreme Rules 2011: Why Christian Will Waste Alberto Del Rio
We're less than a week away from the most extreme night in all of (TV-PG) wrestling. There won't be any blood or chair shots to the head or "extreme" language, but there may be a kendo stick, so it's going to be insane.
In all seriousness, though, it can be very difficult to pull off a great extreme rules match in WWE with their TV-PG initiative. That's not to say it's impossible, but most of the "extreme" matches fans named as their favorites did not happen in this era, and if they did, the match may have broken some of the rules by utilizing blood, whether it happened by blading or someone was busted open the hard way.

Out of all the matches on the card, though, Christian vs. Alberto Del Rio in a Ladder Match for the World Heavyweight Championship seems to be the most promising. Christian, along with Edge, made the Ladder Match one of the most exciting stipulations in wrestling, and anytime either of those two are in a Ladder Match, it's always great. Just look at TLC 2009, Christian vs. Shelton Benjamin (Ladder Match) stole the show, despite being the opening match for the ECW Championship.
Almost a year-and-a-half later, Christian is competing in a Ladder Match for a title most would say is 100 times more prestigious than the now-defunct ECW Championship, that being the World Heavyweight Championship.
Christian has been the IWC's golden buy for years and years, and mostly everyone believes it is Christian time to be World Heavyweight Champion, and this time next week, he just might be.
WWE keeps one World Title on Raw and one World Title on SmackDown. Look at who is in the title matches at Extreme Rules. For the WWE Championship, there are three Raw Superstars competing in a Triple Threat Steel Cage Match. That guarantees that the WWE Championship will be on Raw. For the World Heavyweight Championship, there is one SmackDown Superstar and one Raw Superstar competing in the Ladder Match. It doesn't take a genius to see that in order to keep the balance, Christian (the SmackDown Superstar) must walk out of Extreme Rules the World Heavyweight Champion.
That seems like a pretty obvious reason, though and may seem too predictable to some fans. While it's true that WWE usually doesn't let brand exclusivity get in their way, it's one thing to move a Superstar in September, it's another to move them a week after the draft. Which is why, for that very basic reason, I'm calling this one in Christian's favor.
As always leave a comment below with your prediction for the World Heavyweight Championship Match this Sunday.
