2011 NFL Mock Draft: Full 7-Round Washington Redskins Predictions
The draft is less than a week away and NFL teams are getting ready to bolster their roster by drafting rookies to fill needs on the team.
The Washington Redskins are due for a successful draft to get their team headed in a winning direction.
Here is a full 7-Round Washington Redskins prediction for the 2011 NFL Draft.
Round 1, 1st Pick, No. 10
1 of 10
The Washington Redskins are in an interesting position with the first pick of the draft. Although the team has plenty of options with this pick, the best move is to trade down. The Redskins will get the pick that they still want and it will allow them to get additional picks in this draft.
The Redskins trade the No. 10 overall pick to the New England Patriots. The Redskins could draft and then trade the rights to Robert Quinn out of North Carolina, but this is the best move for the Skins. In exchange the Redskins will get the No. 28 pick and the No. 33 pick from the Patriots.
Second Pick, No. 28 Acquired from the New England Patriots
2 of 10
With the No. 28 pick overall the Washington Redskins select Nate Solder, offensive tackle out of Colorado.
It may be a reach thinking that a few teams pass on Solder, but I believe he will still be here for the taking. The Redskins swoop in and take him at 28, before the Bears get a chance.
Solder is the perfect piece to restore the running game in Washington. He is a 6'8" smashing machine that can move the line and will fit right in on the front line.
Third Pick, No. 33 Acquired from the New England Patriots
3 of 10
With the No. 33 pick overall the Washington Redskins select quarterback Andy Dalton out of TCU. The Redskins will scoop up a signal caller before the quarterback feeding frenzy of the early second round.
Dalton has impressed teams on visits and is a quick learner. While many experts have the Redskins focusing on Jake Locker, this pick will be on Dalton.
Fourth Pick, No. 41 Overall
4 of 10
With the No. 41 pick overall the Washington Redskins select Stephen Paea out of Oregon State. This 300-pounder will be a great addition to the defensive line and will pave the way for Daniel Snyder to finally get rid of Albert Haynesowrth.
Paea is strong for his size and was the leader in the combine in bench press. He can handle offensive linemen and shove them out of the way to stop the run. Paea fills a need and is a great selection with the 41st pick.
Fifth Pick, No. 144 Overall
5 of 10
With the No. 144 pick the Redskins select Cecil Shorts, wide receiver out of Mount Union. Santana Moss is a free agent for the Redskins and he will look to get one last payday with a team that can compete for a championship. That will leave the Redskins looking for a replacement and Shorts can fill the void.
Shorts is a competitor on the football field with a desire to be a better player on the next level. An excellent route runner with the ability to run block, Shorts is not afraid to go over the middle and take a hit. He will fit in on a rebuilding offense right away.
Sixth Pick, No. 155 Overall
6 of 10
Washington acquired this pick from the Saints in the Jammal Brown trade. With the No. 155th pick overall the Washington Redskins select Ricky Elmore, defensive end, out of Arizona. Elmore will fit fine in the defensive scheme and be a pass rusher that the Redskins have been lacking.
A consummate team player, Elmore has a relentless motor and is a team player that will help improve the atmosphere in the locker room. Elmore needs some work but at this late in the draft he fits in fine.
Seventh Pick, No. 177 Overall
7 of 10
With the No. 177 pick the Washington Redskins select Derek Hall, offensive tackle out of Stanford. Hall was selected an All Pac-10 honorable mention and helped protect Andrew Luck. Hall’s stock has dropped and will slip to the Redskins. With the right coaching, Hall could be a fixture on the offensive line. The Redskins will need protection to help protect the quarterback of the future.
Eighth Pick, No. 213 Overall
8 of 10
With the No. 213 pick overall the Washington Redskins select Evean Royster, running back, out of Penn State.
The Redskins have three picks in the seventh round and Mike Shanahan loves to turn running backs that are drafted late into 1,000 yard rushers. His newest project is Royster. Royster is fundamentally sound and will block as well as catch passes out of the backfield.
Royster can make the first defender miss with his agility and finds holes on the line for easy gains. Royster will be someone to watch in the future because he has all the tools that Shanahan looks for in a running back.
Ninth Pick, No. 224 Overall
9 of 10
With the No. 224 pick overall the Washington Redskins select Caleb Schlauderaff, guard out of Utah. Schlauderaff will be a nice addition to the Redskins and brings a ferocious attitude to a line that is in desperate need of a makeover. He already has the ability to pick up blitzes and read line stunts like a professional. A nice late pick for the Redskins War Room.
Tenth Pick, No. 253 Overall
10 of 10
With the No. 253 pick overall the Redskins select linebacker, Chris White, out of Mississippi State. The Redskins have an aging line-backing core and they need to inject some youth. White fills a void and will get a chance to make an impact on the team. White is quick off the ball and wraps up runners well on the tackle.
The Redskins are lined up to have a very successful draft in 2011 which could translate to a good year on the field.
