The Washington Huskies Remain Winless: Is There an End to This Nightmare?
In a word, Husky fans, no. There is no end to this nightmare.
This year was a season of new beginnings that has turned out to be just smoke and mirrors. There is a real fundamental problem that has been overlooked—the Huskies just literally aren't strong enough.
The strength coaches in this bye week need to get on those weights, when in reality they needed to be on them three months ago.
I watched the first half of the Arizona game at Finn Maccool's on the Ave (for those of you familiar with the UW campus). I watched the first drives of the second half and promised myself if they looked competitive I would stay. They didn't. I left.
Ted Miller of ESPN posted on his Pac-10 blog a story from the Arizona players that the Huskies just played defeated. A far cry from the Huskies of old.
I defended Tyrone Willingham from Notre Dame fans and others who claimed he was a terrible coach and recruiter. As much as I hate to admit it, they were right, and mark that on your calendar because I hate to admit I'm wrong.
There have been articles thrown around the Internet saying just about the same thing. Strong recruiting classes the past two seasons merely pasted over the disaster of the two previous classes.
I think all us fans are indignant with the continued glee that redshirts are thrown aside. Terence Dailey maybe was needed, but Cody Bruns was bordering on the absurd.
Scott Woodward has my respect for wanting stability and not firing Willingham midseason. I would agree that making that drastic of an action can destroy the psyche of a team, but I also contend there is no psyche on this team left to destroy.
I just hope the circus that continues to be Husky football doesn't prevent a quality coach from wanting to come in and turn it around.
