Georgia Football 2011: This Year, Good Enough Won't Keep Mark Richt's Job
Larry Burton (Syndicated Writer) Mark Richt has run out of time, if not excuses, for not bringing University of Georgia to the top of the SEC East. Year in and year out, he's had the talent, but he's fallen short of expectations.
Last year, when the SEC East was in "Post Tebow" times, the picking was ripe for Georgia to step and grab the top spot in the East.
Florida was in free fall, Tennessee was in rebuilding mode, Kentucky was breaking in a new coach, Vanderbilt is Vanderbilt and that only left a Dr. Jekyll-Mr. Hyde South Carolina to beat out, and yet, they didn't.
Now, with Florida starting off with a new coach, Tennessee still in rebuilding mode, Kentucky losing their biggest playmaker, Vanderbilt being Vanderbilt and South Carolina finally apparently losing Stephen Garcia, the stage is set for Georgia as never before.
Failing to win the East, or just having another "good" season, won't be good enough to keep the administration from calling for Richt's head.
Since 2007, Richt's team has gone downhill.
Season Record Finish in the SEC East
2007 11-2 First
2008 10-3 Second
2009 8-5 Tied for second
2010 6-7 Tied for third
Even the most staunch Georgia and Mark Richt supporter, Dawgs247.com, has said that another 8-4 season would not justify bringing him back next year.
When your own Web sites say that about a coach, your seat is not just hot; it's on fire.
