Deja Vu: Oregon State Kills USC During Corvallis Dissection
Two years ago, the Oregon State Beavers destroyed USC's hopes of playing Ohio State for the National Championship. In Corvallis, it was clear that if the Beavers were to lose every game that season, it didn't matter as long as they defeated the "unstoppable" Trojans.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the "experts" ask if anyone could beat USC? Didn't they say that Oregon State couldn't beat these Trojans? MAN! WERE THESE IDIOTS WRONG!
Two nights ago, I said it could happen. I didn't say it was going to happen, but I said it could happen. I remember saying, "Imagine the polls if any of those what-ifs happen."
With that said, I turn to the beautiful sunrise of Gainesville, Fla. As the Gators prepare for Mississippi State, I saw Urban Meyer smiling from ear to ear.
The mission for him now is simple: Beat LSU, Georgia, Vandy and Florida State. Win the SEC Championship. Finish either undefeated or with just one loss.
Thanks to Oregon State (again), USC was dropped out of the hunt (again), and Oklahoma, Georgia, Missouri and Florida all have a chance to capitalize on their choke job (again).
With the Buckeyes and Trojans both out of the picture for now (again), which of the Phenomenal Four will step up and take their spot at No. 1?
It was almost perfect from beginning to end for Oregon State. Everyone will be in denial, including those in Los Angeles. There's no way this could have happened to their beloved Trojans, right?
The Oregon State Beavers? No chance in hell.
Once again, USC, I get to say this to you and your fans: Oregon State did it to you again! They shocked you in Corvallis, and possibly took you out of the BCS Title Chase!
So University of Southern California: HOW DO YOU LIKE 'DEM APPLES?
From start to finish, Oregon State was better than USC. They capitalized on every opportunity that was thrown at them. USC did not play as No. 1 on Thursday night. They played like a team that wasn't ranked, ever. They played like a team that left its A-Game in LA.
Even their untouchable quarterback, Mark Sanchez, dropped the ball so to speak at the end, and set up the game clincher for Oregon State. The Beavers defense was devastating for USC. The Trojans were down 21-0 at halftime, and they ended up losing it 27-21.
Where was the #1 team in the country? In Norman, Columbia, Athens, Gainesville, Baton Rouge. Big 12. Big Ten. SEC. ACC. They're somewhere other than Pac-10 or Los Angeles.
It may be premature in their eyes, but when you lose to a 1-2 team who wasn't supposed to win, wasn't supposed to keep up, wasn't supposed to show up to their own massacre, that's a sign that the Sports Gods are back, and they're looking to take your beloved Trojans out of the picture now.
But that was Thursday, and this is Saturday. This afternoon, Oklahoma, Georgia and Florida all have a shot at No. 1. USC will not be No. 1 on Monday morning. And if they are, I call shenanigans! And anyone who doesn't call it if The Trojans are still top-ranked is as idiotic as the old cronies who think that it was a fluke.
So of the new top four teams, who will survive the weekend and lay claim to the throne? Will it be the duo of Big 12 powerhouses Oklahoma and Missouri? Or will the Power Trip of Georgia, Florida and LSU reclaim the top spot for the SEC?
