College Football 2011 Predictions: 10 WRs Who Could Catch Over 100 Balls in 2011
Wide receiver is easily the most exciting position in football.
These players have the uncanny ability to utilize their size, speed and athletic abilities to make plays that wow crowds, and change games on a week to week basis.
Every year in college football there are a handful of standout receivers who really separate themselves from the pack and emerge as stars.
Let’s take a look at 10 wide receivers who could catch over 100 balls in the 2011 college football season.
10. B.J. Cunningham: Michigan State
1 of 10
Michigan State's a team that’s riding the fence between good and great right now.
In order for them to make the transition to a championship contending team they are going to need to establish an explosive receiving threat to go along with their great rushing attack.
Cunningham only had 50 receptions and 9 touchdowns, so he’s going to have to double his catches to be valid on this list.
But, I truly do believe Michigan State is going to need him to step up to that level, and he will establish himself as a big time receiver in the Big Ten.
9. Bert Reed: Florida State
2 of 10
The Seminoles are putting themselves in good position to make a run at the ACC this year.
They have an incredibly solid rushing attack and a defense that will be one of the best in the conference.
Bert Reed is going to be a senior wide receiver, and he will have to really improve on his 58 receptions and two touchdowns from 2010.
I think we are going to see Reed surface as one of the best wide receivers in the ACC.
8. Michael Floyd: Notre Dame
3 of 10
Floyd is an extremely gifted wide receiver and he is going to really have to play like a star if the Fighting Irish want to win back any sort of prestige in the college football world.
The days of Rudy are long gone, so somebody is going to have to step up and make big time plays for Notre Dame.
Floyd had 79 receptions and 12 touchdowns in 2010.
I expect to see many more catches out of him.
7. Jeff Fuller: Texas A&M
4 of 10
Somebody is going to have to step up to fill the void that Terrence McCoy left at the wide receiver position, and I think that player is going to be Jeff Fuller.
Fuller is going to be one of the senior leaders on this team, and A&M always has a very explosive offense.
Look for Fuller to improve on his 72 receptions and 12 touchdowns from last season.
6. Alshon Jeffery: South Carolina
5 of 10
Quarterback Stephen Garcia will be ready for his prime time season with the Gamecocks, and running back Marcus Lattimore is going to be a force on the ground.
Alshon Jeffery is going to benefit from the strong running game and should find himself dealing with a lot of turned around defenders.
He had 88 receptions in 2010.
I’m pretty sure he can add at least 12 more this season.
5. Rueben Randle: Louisiana State
6 of 10
Ruben Randle is entering into his junior year and will really have to step up his numbers from last season to reach the 100 reception mark.
He only notched 33 catches in the 2010 season.
That being said I think he is going to play an important role in Les Miles offense, and I think we will see him join the 100 catch club in 2011.
4. Emory Blake: Auburn
7 of 10
The defending National Champs are going to take a hit from all the players they are losing to the NFL, but that doesn’t mean that they are down on their luck.
The offense still has some good pieces with Michael Dyer in the backfield and Emory Blake is going to have to step up into that big time receiving role.
Cam Newton will no longer be hurling the ball around the field, so I expect that Blake is going to have to play a huge roll in this offense.
He didn’t play in three games during the 2010 season, but came up with 33 catches and 8 touchdowns, including a big one in the Tostitos BCS National Championship game.
3. Darius Hanks: Alabama
8 of 10
With Greg McElroy, Mark Ingram and Julio Jones leaving the offense, there are really going to be a lot of questions regarding how this Crimson Tide offense is going to “roll”.
Sophomore Quarterback, A.J. McCarron, is going to need to find a go to receiver, and I believe that Darius Hanks is going to be just the man for the job.
Hanks had 32 receptions last season.
I expect to see that number skyrocket in 2011.
2. Justin Blackmon: Oklahoma State
9 of 10
The Cowboys are returning 10 starters to an offense that was rated No. 2 in the nation in passing
Blackmon is going to be a key player in the passing attack, and he has shown that he has the capability to be an option running the ball as well.
He caught 111 passes and notched an extremely impressive 20 touchdowns in 2010.
He has not yet reached his ceiling, and I expect that those numbers will grow in 2011.
Scary eh?
1. Ryan Broyles: Oklahoma
10 of 10
Ryan Broyles is returning to Oklahoma for his senior year, and you better believe that he will be gearing up for a championship run with the Sooners.
Bob Stoops should have 17 starters returning from last year’s team, and if Broyles produces anything like he did last year we should see Oklahoma at number one in the polls on a weekly basis.
Broyles caught 131 balls and had 14 touchdowns in 2010.
I believe you can expect the same, if not more, in 2011.
