2011 College Football Top 25 Predictions: Top 10 RBs In The Top 25
The college football season is set to begin in just six months. Teams will take the field and running backs from the Top 25 in the nation will look to put out a stellar performance.
Teams like Oklahoma and Oklahoma State will be replacing some high-yardage backs coming into this season, while teams like Oregon and Michigan State kept their own workhorses.
Which running back is the top running back in the Top 25 in the preseason?
10. James White, Wisconsin
1 of 10
Looking to rebound from a bad ending to the 2010 season, Wisconsin will look a little towards their sophomore running back, James White.
White as a freshman piled up some pretty good numbers and looked to have solid potential as a top-tier running back of the future for the Badgers.
White rushed for 1,052 yards and 14 scores on only 156 attempts in 2010.
Class- Sophomore
2010 Stats—1,052 yards rushing, 156 attempts, 14 rushing touchdowns, 6.7 yards per carry
9. Ed Wesley, TCU
2 of 10
Unlike White, Wesley's team is coming off a great showing in the Rose Bowl and a great 2010 season.
Wesley last year helped significantly in taking pressure off of the TCU passing game. He helped the team by rushing for 1,078 yards and, like White, did it on limited carries.
He only touched the ball 166 times while punching the ball into the endzone 11 times.
Class—Junior
2010 Stats—1,078 yards rushing, 166 attempts, 11 rushing touchdowns, 6.5 yards per carry
8. Michael Dyer, Auburn
3 of 10
Dyer should be a lot higher on this list, but without Cam Newton to relieve the pressure he could go either way in 2010.
Last season he only rushed for five touchdowns, but with Cam Newton as your quarterback, that's pretty good.
Dyer also rushed 1,093 yards and like the last couple running backs, did it all in less then 200 carries, only touching the ball 182 times.
Class- Sophomore
2010 Stats—1,093 yards rushing, 182 attempts, 5 rushing touchdowns, 6.0 yards per carry
7. Cyrus Gray, Texas A&M
4 of 10
Texas A&M looks to be a top team next year competing in a pretty good-looking Big 12.
Last season he helped a lot on 200 attempts rushing for 1,133 yards and 12 scores.
If A&M is going to have a big season, Gray will be a big part of it. He will surely make sure that in his senior year, he goes out with a bang.
A&M could be big-time sleepers next season.
Class—Senior
2010 Stats—1,133 yards rushing, 200 attempts, 12 rushing touchdowns, 5.7 yards per carry
6. Stepfan Taylor, Stanford
5 of 10
Taking pressure off Andrew Luck will be huge for the Stanford offense next season.
Taylor will surely do that and will have another big campaign come the 2011 season.
With Luck as his quarterback he rushed for 15 touchdowns and 1,137 yards on 223 attempts.
Stanford looks to be a big name shooting for the National Championship next season—with the help of their great junior running back and Luck—they will make it there.
Class—Junior
2010 Stats—1,137 yards rushing, 223 attempts, 15 rushing touchdowns, 5.1 yards per carry
5. Dan Herron, Ohio State
6 of 10
Ok, so Herron is going to miss most of the season due to an NCAA suspension for infractions.
He's still one of the top running backs in the nation when he returns.
Herron had an outstanding 2010 campaign helping out Terrelle Pryor. Herron rushed for 1,155 yards and 16 scores, pretty impressive for the Buckeye running back.
Class—Senior
2010 Stats—1,155 yards rushing, 216 attempts, 16 rushing touchdowns, 5.3 yards per carry
4. Marcus Lattimore, South Carolina
7 of 10
Much like the other backs on this list, Lattimore is going to be a huge contributor to his team's success.
Lattimore last season rushed almost 1,200 yards on 249 attempts.
Lattimore is hugely integral to his team's success and South Carolina could have a big year thanks to the Sophomore running back.
Class—Sophomore
2010 Stats—1,197 yards rushing, 259 attempts, 17 rushing touchdowns, 4.8 yards per carry
3. Edwin Baker, Michigan State
8 of 10
Edwin Baker returning is huge for the Spartans come next season. To make as big as of impact as they made last season, they will need him.
He's another back that saw very few carries in 2010, with 207 attempt and still rushed for good yardage, a whopping 1,201 yards and 13 scores.
Class—Junior
2010 Stats—1,201 yards rushing, 207 attempts, 13 rushing touchdowns, 5.8 yards per carry
2. Knile Davis, Arkansas
9 of 10
Arkansas can be a top team next season and, in part, due to the legs of Knile Davis. Davis returning gives Arkansas one of the most productive backs from the 2010 season.
On only 204 attempts last season Davis rushed for 1,322 yards and 13 scores.
He didn't even get more then ten attempts in a game until his fifth game against Texas A&M.
Class—Junior
2010 Stats—1,322 yards rushing, 204 attempts, 13 rushing touchdowns, 6.5 yards per carry
1. LaMichael James, Oregon
10 of 10
There is no question, LaMichael James is the top running back in the nation next season.
Heisman hopeful and up for just about every award you can give to a running back, James will be the best.
Returning to Oregon he's bringing back his speedy legs that helped him produce 1,731 yards rushing, averaging 5.9 yards a carry.
James also rushed for 21 touchdowns last season and is a reason as to why Oregon is ranked so highly.
