Jadeveon Clowney: Soon, SC's Defensive Line Could Be SEC's Best
With the signing of Jadeveon Clowney, South Carolina has established a couple of things.
1. South Carolina has a strangle hold on in-state recruiting, with the last three top in-state prospects (Stephon Gilmore, Marcus Lattimore and now Clowney) committing to the Gamecocks.
2. It is a place where elite level talent can seriously consider.
3. South Carolina's defensive line could develop into the SEC's best.
In terms of winning, No. 3 is a huge step. One of the biggest things championship caliber teams have are power players on both sides of the line.
With Jadeveon Clowney, South Carolina has its most talented prospect ever. He will be joining a group that is already deep and has an All-SEC caliber player in Devin Taylor.
With key freshmen such as Kelcy Quarrels, the Dixon Brothers and Philip Dukes, Steve Spurrier has completed his defensive line for years to come.
Also, one cannot forget the offensive line here. Brandon Shell is another five-star recruit, and is a 6'7" mammoth of a left tackle. The offensive line has been developing for years, and they may now finally have the players to make the line work.
One also cannot understate the impact Clowney can have on that side of the ball. Working against an athlete like him everyday will improve the line.
South Carolina has finished up this recruiting class with one more win against the rival Clemson Tigers. No doubt they had a stellar class, but the signing of Clowney brings the two classes much, much closer.
Welcome to South Carolina, Mr. Clowney.
