Jadeveon Clowney Announcement: 10 Reasons He Should Pick Clemson

Andrew KulhaJun 7, 2018

Today's the big day for the nations No. 1 college football recruit!

Jadeveon Clowney has apparently narrowed his choices down to South Carolina, Alabama and Clemson.

Now, all he has to do is pick the school he wants to take his talents too. All three schools are great options with plenty of upside, and let me just say that I'm happy that it's not me making this decision for him.

It's a tough call.

That being said, here's a list of 10 reasons Jadeveon Clowney should pick Clemson:

10. Next Level

Three Clemson Tigers played in the Super Bowl this year—all on the Pittsburgh side of the ball.

Even though Clemson is not exactly a powerhouse for football, they have still shown the ability to produce quality professional athletes.

Jadeveon Clowney has the option to potentially be the best professional prospect that Clemson has sent to the NFL in years.

9. Legendary Status

Clowney has a chance to be something special.

He could easily go to one of the “big wig” schools and be another great player to pass on by, or he could go be the king at Clemson for the next four years and be a legend after that.

Off the top of your head: Who was the last superstar to come out of Clemson?

8. Back on the Map

The ACC is widely known for its basketball, while football seems to play second fiddle.

This is quite opposite than pretty much every other conference, so Jadeveon Clowney could be the one to put ACC football back on the map.

Imagine all the ACC football coverage on SportsCenter…it would be crazy!

7. Awesome Jerseys

Personally, I love the Clemson Tigers jerseys.

The orange, white and purple really go great together when you match them all up on football jerseys, and I think if Clowney has any fashion sense, he would realize that he’s going to look the best with the Tigers.

6. Level of Play

I don’t want to keep coming down on the ACC here, but the fact is it is not one of the best football conferences out there. Sure, there is still plenty of great football that is played, but the level of competition is definitely dumbed down a bit compared to the SEC—let’s say.

Jadeveon Clowney could go to an Alabama and be an incredible force on the defensive side of the ball.

Or, he could go to Clemson and be an unstoppable force in the ACC.

5. Recruiting

Many analysts were high on Clemson’s recruiting class this year, so the addition of Clowney would easily put them over the top.

Not only would he be joining a strong class, but Clemson has shown that they have the ability to attract good football players, so he will be surrounded by talent for him to make better during his tenure at the school.

If they can bring him in this year, who knows who Clemson could snag next year!? Potentially even another No. 1 recruit!

4. Birds of a Feather

Jadeveon Clowney apparently became good friends with Tony Steward, the nation’s No. 1 ranked linebacker, who just so happens to be going to Clemson.

Matching up the nation’s No.1 overall recruit and the No. 1 ranked linebacker in the nation on the same defense…

That’s a recipe for greatness right there.

3. Coaching

Clemson’s coach, Dabo Swinney, has shown that he is one of the nation’s best recruiters, and he also happens to be a pretty darn good coach.

The Tigers went 6-7 this past offseason, but with the talent they have brought in on both sides of the ball, there is definitely potential to do great things.

2. Scheme

TAMPA, FL - DECEMBER 05: Defenders Mallicah Goodman #97 and Brandon Maye #20 of the Clemson Tigers tackle running back Embry Peeples #24 of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in the 2009 ACC Football Championship game at Raymond James Stadium on December 5

This may be an understated point in this whole process.

The Tigers run a traditional 4-3 defense, which would cater specifically to the skill set that Clowney possesses at defensive end.

If he were to choose to go to Alabama, they would struggle to find ways to effectively use him in their 3-4 scheme, and South Carolina’s 4-2-5 is just silly.

1. They're Great!

Clemson is an incredible school that has much to offer including a small town-college feel, which is incredibly attractive to many recruits.

Tiger fans support their teams through thick and thin, and I know, without a doubt, they absolutely love their football team.

Jadeveon Clowney has the opportunity to play in front of one of the best fanbases in all of college football, and he can be a star for them.
