LSU, Auburn Create Yet Another Instant Classic
If you love rivalries, then the LSU - Auburn game is quickly become one that you simply, simply cannot miss. The 2008 version was pretty darned good too. No - change that. This one was ANOTHER game for the ages.
A trick play that ended up in a touchdown?
Yep. We had that. See Keiland Williams' incredible strike to Demetrius Byrd right at the end of the third quarter to give LSU a 17-14 win.
Two of the NFL's fastest defenses on display?
That's why Auburn ran one interception back to the house, and there were two more turnovers. Both defenses were buzzing around like hornets. LSU's deep defensive line proved to be the difference on the final drive, but Auburn's speed was breathtaking. Oh, and check out the monster hit on Andrew Hatch, which will be somewhere on YouTube by the end of the week. It put him on the sidelines. Frequent camera shots to former Harvard quarterback showed that he probably lowered 100 IQ points after THAT hit.
Wild special teams?
Well, Trindon Holliday, the LSU sprint/punt returner, certainly made things exciting when he dropped two punts. Thankfully for LSU Tiger Nation, his team was able to cover up his blushes. Otherwise, they could have been Pontiac Game Changing Plays for the very wrong reason.
Redemption?
While there wasn't redemption for Auburn (they failed to beat LSU last season, losing another heartbreaker), LSU quaterback Jarrett Lee managed to redeem himself, going from zero to hero from half to half.
Incredible atmosphere?
First of all, there doesn't seem a more special place to watch night game football that at Jordan-Hare Stadium in Auburn. There's just something about it. The noise was incredible last night - so much so that at times it was hard to hear Mike Patrick and Todd - I'm pretty happy that Penn State are 4-0 - Blackledge. And no, TB didn't mention the fact that PSU are 4-0. I did, though. The sea of orange was incredible - although with those loud Cajuns- the away side of purple and yellow wasn't quiet either.
