Torres, Carroll, Suarez and More: Wrapping Up The Monday Transfer Madness

Joe TanseyJun 7, 2018

Monday was expected to be and was the busiest day of the January transfer window.

In a shock move, Liverpool got Andy Carroll from Newcastle to join King Kenny's new reign at Anfield, which saw the new owners, New England Sports Ventures, drop big money on a new attacking combination.

Part of the old attacking combination at Liverpool, Fernando Torres is now a member of Chelsea, who spent the most money of all Premier League teams on Monday.

In the slide show, all of the major Premier League transfers from Monday that were signed during the last day of the transfer window.

In the big transfer news of the day, Newcastle and their owner, Mike Ashley, let the young England striker go to Anfield for a fee of 35 million pounds.

Ashley tried to put some blame on Carroll for the departure by stating that the striker put in a transfer request, but that is just plain rubbish as Ashley just wanted the money that will eventually not go for more players, which is unfortunate for the Magpies and their fans.

The move leaves Newcastle with just three formidable strikers in Leon Best, Peter Lovenkrands and Shola Ameobi.

After the Carroll move went through, Torres was given the go ahead to move to Stamford Bridge in a 45 million pound deal that gives the Blues a formidable attack option to go along with Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka.

Chelsea were able to keep Anelka, who rumored to be swapped to Liverpool in the deal, and they will look to show off their new talent ironically against Liverpool on Sunday, where the fixture has gotten a lot more interesting.

Luis Suarez: Ajax to Liverpool

The Suarez saga ended over the weekend with Ajax and Liverpool agreeing on a 22.7 million pound transfer fee for the Uruguayan forward.

The signing was made official on Monday with Suarez putting pen to paper on a five and a half year contract as well.

Suarez will now be partnered alongside Andy Carroll in manager Kenny Dalglish's new look frontline for the Reds.

The sought after midfielder is staying at Bloomfield Road after having rumors surrounding him for most of January.

With clubs like Aston Villa, Manchester United and especially Liverpool being linked with Adam.

The final rumors on Monday came early with Liverpool supposedly offering a 14 million pound offer, which actually ended up being only a 6.5 million pound offer instead.

A late bid from Tottenham as the deadline closed almost took Adam away for Bloomfield Road, but the bid was rejected by Blackpool.

It looks like the midfielder will be sold in summer time but for now he is still a member of Blackpool.

With all of the madness surrounding a forward being brought in to Stamford Bridge, a forward was on his way out on loan to Bolton.

Eidur Gudjohnsen: Stoke to Fulham

9 of 11

Gudjohnsen's case is a typical one of a player not getting enough playing time and transferring to a club on loan to get the playing time.

The Iceland forward will give the Cottagers plenty of insurance at the position before Bobby Zamora returns from injury.
