Transfer Day Deadline: Seems Like Liverpool FC is the Only Team in the Game
Liverpool seems to have done it again, a mad scramble on the last day of the transfer window deadline.
Even in the summer, Liverpool sold Mascherano just three days before the deadline and were frantically negotiating for signing Pavlyuchenko or Carlton Cole.
This time, although still slow in securing the signing of Luis Suarez from Ajax, Liverpool seemed to be doing rather well in the winter window.

And that was the day that Fernando Torres, boosted by the bid from Chelsea, first asked the club to consider Chelsea's offer and then dropped in a transfer request.
Liverpool FC made an official statement on the same day that the transfer request had been rejected and Torres was not for sale.
However, the club started contemplating the consequences of having a player in the squad who had expressed his desire to leave in the public. Though the fans have forgiven such a deed in the past, but there seemed to be no backtracking from Torres.
Hence, Liverpool started negotiating with Chelsea, though there were only three days left to the closing of the transfer window.
Since, Suarez was brought to strengthen the squad. Bringing him while letting Torres leave would have left the squad no stronger.
Hence, Liverpool started looking for alternatives in the market. Now, almost everyone in the market knows Liverpool's situation and the prices for almost all the players start inflating as the transfer window deadline approaches.
Although the new owners seem to be playing the Torres situation better than we have seen Liverpool in some time, its not an situation that they would want themselves to be in.
Liverpool made an audacious bid of £30m for Andy Carroll and some reports suggest that the deal might be finalized for £35m. In a sane world, in the summer transfer window, Carroll might not have been for anything more than a generous £25m. Newcastle, though weakened by his departure, would be mad not to accept this offer.
Another deal that might go through because of Torres leaving might be that of Charlie Adam. With the spare cash after spending on Carroll, there might be enough left to raise the bid just enough to bring Charlie Adam in. With Blackpool already turning toward Andy Reid, there seems to be a deal for Charlie Adam in the offing.
With the less glamorous transfers to end the woeful career of Konchesky (loan to Nottingham Forrest) and Danny Ayala (loan to Derby County), Liverpool has already taken the dip into the transfer market on the 31st.
Also, a loan deal for Warnock to replace Konchesky is on the cards, though the replacement of one average with another seems to defy logic, except the fact that Warnock is a Liverpool boy and is liked more by Kenny as compared to Konchesky.
With rumours also flying with respect to Llorente, Payet, Benzema, N'Zogbia etc., there might just be some surprises in the wings.
Last transfer window, Redknapp was able to secure the deal of the window by signing Van der Vaart just five minutes before the deadline closed. As a Liverpool fan, I sincerely hope that its Liverpool that achieves something similar.
I am not sure how much better or worse would Liverpool be with Suarez and Carroll with respect to Torres alone upfront, or even if the deals mentioned in the media are true or not.
One thing is for sure: the last few days have turned this January transfer window into one of the most exciting January transfer windows we have seen.
