January Transfer Window: Top 10 Moves That Will Influence EPL Title Race
The January transfer window is finally over, and it was quite a ride, wasn't it.
The main action took place in the English Premier League, where the record league signing was smashed twice in the period of one day, and clubs forked out a massive total of £108,525,000.
Let's take a look at some of the signings which will have the biggest impact on this year's title race.
10. Jean Makoun (Lyon to Aston Villa)
1 of 11
Lyon's highly rated defensive midfielder Jean Makoun was linked with a move to Barcelona, Arsenal, and Manchester United among other clubs.
However, he ended up going to Aston Villa for a fee of £4.2 million.
His box-to-box style of play and hard work in the midfield, in addition to Aston Villas other transfer window signings, will likely help the club regain some of their form and jump up from a lowly 13th in the tables.
9. Sulley Muntari (Loan — Internazionale to Sunderland)
2 of 11
Sunderland managed to accomadate Inter Milan midfielder Sulley Muntari on loan.
The Ghanaian hard man will link up with fellow internationals Asamoah Gyan and John Mensah at Sunderland, and help the club achieve European competition this season.
The 26-year-old joined the club due to a lack of first team football at Inter Milan.
8. Daniel Sturridge (Loan — Chelsea to Bolton)
3 of 11
Chelsea youngster Daniel Sturridge has joined Bolton Wanderers on loan.
Previously linked with a move to Anfield, the 21-year-old English international will instead play with Bolton for the rest of the season.
Though he can't help them to the title, he will likely form a good relationship with Johan Elmander and Kevin Davies and help the club jump back from 11th in the table, and claim their spot in European competition.
7. Steven Pienaar (Everton to Tottenham)
4 of 11
Although Tottenham Hotspur failed to pull off the massive signing they were aiming for in the January transfer window, they still manged to bring in Everton midfielder Steven Pienaar.
It originally looked like he would end up at Chelsea, however Spurs proceeded to snatch up the South African for a low £3 million.
The hard working midfielder will help Tottenham pursue their title dreams and try to help them achieve success in their Champion's League campaign.
6. David Luiz (Benfica to Chelsea)
5 of 11
After so much speculation about David Luiz's future, the young Brazilian defender finally ended up signing for Chelsea.
Signed for £21 milliom, Chelsea's Nemanja Matic will head to Benfica to seal the deal.
Luiz's presence will hopefully help to sort out Chelsea's defensive problems, and despite his young age, he could likely start in the center of defense with Branislav Ivanovic out on the right.
5. Darren Bent (Sunderland to Aston Villa)
6 of 11
Although Aston Villa have no hopes of winning the title, the arrival of Sunderland's Darren Bent will likely help the club back up in the table.
Currently sitting at 13th, Aston Villa brought in the English striker for a surprisingly high £24 million.
However, the results have already started to show as Bent scored the game winner for Aston Villa against Manchester City.
4. Luis Suarez (Ajax to Liverpool)
7 of 11
Originally brought in to partner Fernando Torres, Liverpool fans will now look to Luis Suarez to be the club's leader and major goalscoring threat.
Purchased from Ajax for £23 million, Suarez is prolific in front of goal and talented with a ball at his feet.
It will be interesting to see whether the arrival of Suarez will bring Liverpool back to their winning ways, and whether he can help the club back to top form for many years to come.
3. Andy Carroll (Newcastle to Liverpool)
8 of 11
Following the arrival of Luis Suarez to Liverpool and the impending transfer of Fernando Torres, Liverpool decided to splash the cash on Newcastle United youngster Andy Carroll.
Just 21 years of age, Carroll has been having an impressive season and was sold for a record breaking £35 million.
Although Liverpool's title dreams have been squashed for quite some time now, Carroll can help the Anfield club regain their top form and shake up the title race come their meetings with the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United, and Chelsea.
2. Edin Dzeko (Wolfsburg to Manchester City)
9 of 11
After numerous deals, numerous rumors, and numerous months, Wolfsburg striker Edin Dzeko finally arrived at Manchester City!
However, he came for a surprisingly low price of £27 million, with numbers originally being thrown around in the £40 millions.
He has already debuted for his club and scored once in three matches. If he can continue to grow on his strong performances and form a partnership with Carlos Tevez, maybe Manchester City's spending will finally pay off!
1. Fernando Torres (Liverpool to Chelsea)
10 of 11
In what is undoubtedly the biggest signing in this January transfer window, Anfield star Fernando Torres left the club and found a new home at Stamford Bridge.
Although Liverpool obtained two quality strikers in the transfer window, they were unable to hold on to star striker Fernando Torres, who was sold to Chelsea for a EPL record £50 million on a five-and-a-half year deal.
The arrival of Torres will likely refresh a somewhat sluggish Chelsea attack and hopefully help the reigning champions keep their Premier League title and challenge more strongly for this year's Champion's League.
