Mbappé's Rollercoaster Season 🎢

Blackpool 2 – 3 Manchester United

Ben JohnstonJan 25, 2011

Some wins aren’t just wins; they carry a deeper meaning and mean that little bit more.

Tonight falls into that category.

Absolutely shocking in the first half—and horrible from the set pieces we’re usually good at defending—the introduction of Ryan Giggs sparked Berbatov into life and the game was swung massively.

At least, that’s what you’ll be led to believe because yes, Giggs did come on at halftime for the ineffective Gibson and play an absolute blinder, but we were still 2-0 down after an hour.

It was when Chicharito came on for Rooney that the game spun. Lively, dangerous, inventive (everything Rooney isn’t at the moment), his pace and movement stretched the game far beyond what Blackpool were capable of dealing with.

On another day he could have had a hat trick, such was his contribution.

Nani had another frustrating night, too, and Scholes didn’t impose himself on the game as much as we would have liked, but he’s only just back from injury and will improve.

Of course, this is also a great excuse to rant about one man.

Berbaflop, the lazy genius, with his hang-dog expression and poor “body language,” once again comes to the rescue and invents three points where none existed.

He’s absolutely incredible to watch, and has overtaken Zlatan Ibrahimovic as my favourite striker in the world.

The moment in the first half where he plucked a driven pass from Scholes (I think) out of the air with his toe and volleyed at goal was completely ridiculous—a FIFA moment.

He is currently playing like a cross between Ruud van Nistelrooy and Eric Cantona, and long may it continue.

I perhaps bullishly predicted that this would be a comfortable win, and fair play to Blackpool for making it far, far more difficult than it could have been. And well done Craig Cathcart, who was superb in the first hour of the game and got the goal he must have so dearly wanted.

But if we’re winning these games, 2-0 down away with 30 minutes left, then which games aren’t we winning? It’s like the good old United, where being 3-0 down at half time was NOTHING!

I can almost smell the 19th title.
