National Signing Day 2011: Jeff Driskel Vs. Braxton Miller, Who's Top QB?
There are some extremely talented quarterback prospects in this year's class, yet the consensus seems to be the position as a whole is a bit down this year.
With that said, the two signal callers that spark the most debate for top honors are Jeff Driskel and Braxton Miller. We all know how important the position of quarterback is not only to a team but the whole program. These two sure fire talents are program changers in every sense of the term.
Let's finally settle the argument over who's the better player.
Who Is Jeff Driskel?
1 of 7
Commit: Florida
HT: 6'3" WT: 225 pounds
Driskel is rated as a 5-star prospect by Scout with Rivals handing him a 4-star status along with the 32nd best player overall ranking.
He's a big quarterback that not only is tall, yet he has a very thick frame. Driskel has solid quickness in his drops and a cannon for an arm. He can make all the throws and attack all levels of a defense. The other element to Driskell's game is great athleticism. He can buy time in the pocket, escape the rush, attack the edges, roll out and make throws on the run or gain yards with his legs.
His showing at the Under Armour game proved he can what he pleases on the field.
Driskel's Weaknesses
2 of 7
Driskel has just about all the tools needed to become a top flight college quarterback, yet there are a couple things he must work on.
First, he has played in a mainly shotgun type offense, and while Charlie Weis will employ some shotgun at Florida, Weis is a pro-style coach who likes his quarterbacks under center a lot too. So Driskel will have to really work on his drops from center. Second, he must improve his ball handling. Many always ask what make Peyton Manning so good? The first thing he'll tell you he works on is his ball handling, which includes selling of fakes and play action.
Last, Driskel must not become like Brett Favre and Jay Cutler as to get too confident in his arm strength. His decision making has come into question as he sometimes tries to fire balls between defenders because of his cannon arm.
Who Is Braxton Miller?
3 of 7
Commit: Ohio State
HT: 6'2 WT: 190 pounds
Miller is a 5-star recruit per Scout and 4-star per Rivals, who also has him ranked as the 34th best player in the country. He's dual threat nightmare as a signal caller out of Wayne (OH) who can beat you with his arm and his legs.
He has a very cut and athletic frame will easily add more wight in college. Miller possesses incredible arm strength to make all the throws with zip and velocity. He's not a running quarterback who looks to scramble after his first read, he's more like a Donovan McNabb as he's a passing QB who also has the ability to run.
He can escape the rush, buy time and make plays within and out of the pocket with ease.
Miller's Weaknesses
4 of 7
Miller, like Driskel is a top flight signal caller who only has a minimal amount of weaknesses.
Aside from needing to bulk up a bit for college, he needs to be a more consistent player. He can be a bit erratic at times, and must improve his accuracy on all levels. This will come to be improved with better footwork in the pocket and more repetitions.
Similarities Of Driskel and Miller
5 of 7
Both players are uber talents and they do have some similarities.
Starting with arm strength, Driskel and Miller both have cannons to stretch a defense. They've also both played in shotgun type offenses in college and will both need to work on their drops from center.
Next, both players are very athletic with good mobility to make plays with their legs. They each have great foot quickness in the pocket, can buy time against the rush, scramble and either make a throw on the run or get upfield with their legs.
Differences Between Driskel and Miller
6 of 7
Driskel is an inch to two inches taller which allows him to see over the rush better and increases his field vision. Miller while have to really learn how to slide within the pocket to find his open passing lanes in college, but it shouldn't be an issue.
Miller is probably a better pure run threat at this time as he runs like a running back with the ball, while Driskel is more of a quarterback that is athletic to scramble for yards.
Who's Better?

If we were forced to pick right now on the spot, Driskel would be the guy. Miller has a chance to make a more immediate impact early as a Buckeye since he could start the first five games due to Terrelle Pryor's suspension.
Driskel has the tools to be a first round NFL Draft pick. He'll be playing in a pro-style offense at Florida now, for a great quarterback tutor in Charlie Weis and should develop into a great player in Gainesville.
Both players undoubtedly will endure great success in their careers and the decision is nit picking, yet we like Driskel just a tad more right now.
