College Football Coaches Ranking: Does Gene Chizik Replace Nick Saban?
Now that college football is over, it is time for a lot of speculation to where teams will end up next season and how good the upcoming recruiting classes are going to turn out.
Well since spring football is still a little bit away, but it's never to early to power rank the coaches. So here it is the top 10 football coaches in America.
10. Mac Brown
1 of 10
Mac Brown has had an excellent coaching career with Texas. Although they had an off season this year, they are young and rebuilding.
Expect Brown to keep getting high caliber players at Texas and be competing for championships once again.
A lot of people have been calling for his retirement following the 5-7 season which only featured two conference victories. Brown had a very young team and will be back this season. Texas will be a top 25 this year, and compete for a national championship in 2013.
9. Gary Patterson
2 of 10
Gary Patterson is one of the most underrated coaches in college football right now. He recently led his TCU Horned Frogs to an undefeated season including a huge Rose Bowl victory against a tough Wisconsin team.
The last time TCU lost a game was in the 2010 Fiesta Bowl where they lost to a great Boise State team in which was a battle of the non qualifying conferences.
In his time with TCU Patterson has led the team to eight bowl games including two BCS Bowls. He has a bowl record of 6-2.
8. Brian Kelly
3 of 10
Notre Dame is rebuilding and it has a lot to do with Brian Kelly. Kelly is a terrific coach who has a great recruiting history. His philosophy is great and he makes great decision during the game.
Although Notre Dame only had a record of 8-5 this season, they are rebuilding and will be back on top soon.
Look for the Irish led by Kelly to be a national powerhouse once again, and finally give Notre Dame that coach that will stay with them for a long time and be successful.
7. Gene Chizik
4 of 10
A lot is to be said about Chizik. He took an Auburn program from the dumps of the SEC to the National Championship, the dream of any coach.
He was helped by one of the best college players of the season in Cam Newton, but will lose him for next season. We will then see how great of a coach Chizik actually is.
I have no doubt Auburn will almost always be successful under Chizik, as he is a great coach, but it's going to be tough for him to win another conference championship.
6. Frank Beamer
5 of 10
Frank Beamer has been the coach at Virginia Tech forever. In fact many of the players are starting to think that he might not ever leave. Now he hasn't quite reached Joe Pa status, but he is getting close.
Beamer had a very successful season in 2010 leading the Hockies to an ACC championshp and to a BCS berth.
Beamer will keep building on the program and learn from the loss to Stanford in the BCS game. Look for Virginia Tech to be back on the map soon.
5. Joe Paterno
6 of 10
Who doesn't want to play for Joe Paterno? Some say that he is so old that he coached Jesus. Now we all know this is not true but he is still an excellent coach.
Penn State might have had a difficult season this year, but they are back on the rise and will be successful in the future under the Paterno legacy.
In what looks like Paterno's last season with the Nittany Lions, no one really knows, look for them to go out with a bang.
4. Chip Kelly
7 of 10
I mean who expected Oregon to make it to the National title game this season, Bueller? Bueller?
Chip Kelly has revolutionized the spread offense and has created one of the most exciting teams to watch in college football. His offense is fast paced, and that is an understatement.
Look for Oregon to be the favorites for the title next season, as they are returning most of their key starters.
3. Bob Stoops
8 of 10
Bob Stoops has been one of the most successful coaches in college football for the past decade. It seems that Oklahoma keeps reloading every season with new talent.
Stoops has led the Sooners to eight BCS bowl games and has never missed a bowl game in general.
The Sooners are looking good once again in 2011 and expect them to be competing for the National Title next season.
2. Jim Tressel
9 of 10
Jim Tressel is a great coach and will continue having Ohio State in BCS games year in and year out.
Tressel has dominated the Big Ten in recent years and will continue with his ability to recruit great players and get them to come to the mid-west.
Tressel has taken Ohio State to eight BCS games and even won a National Title. OSU is always a great football powerhouse, and that will always be the case as long as Tressel is in the building.
1. Nick Saban
10 of 10
You can't argue with this one. He is the best coach in college football right now and he deserves every accolade he receives.
Alabama has reloaded once again for next year and of course has a wealth of talent returning again for next season. Saban is one of the best recruiters in the game and will continue to be successful.
He has led two separate programs to national championships and will continue doing so as long as he is coaching.
As of now, Saban is the best, now who is going to knock him off?
