National Signing Day 2011: Which Recruits Will Choose the Wrong School?
National Signing Day 2011 is closing in on us fast. And for every ounce of pressure on media members, fans and coaches while the time winds down, a pound weighs on the shoulders of top recruits.
As such, some of those top-ranked recruits may make the wrong decision.
Based off news updates and other published reports, some players ranked highly either as an overall player or within their respective position, are considering some odd schools as finalists. Based on those facts, players are bound to make the wrong choices when committing to schools after the long and pressure-packed process.
Here are five key recruits who could end up choosing the wrong school on National Signing Day.
Stephone Anthony: Choosing Florida Over Clemson Would Be Wrong Choice
1 of 5
Anthony, a 5-star linebacker according to Rivals.com, has been known as a Florida lean for quite some time.
Reports indicate that the 6'2'', 220-pound tackling machine remains a likely Florida commit despite the recent push put on by Clemson.
The Tigers lack the type of defensive firepower in their class, meaning Anthony would likely step on the field day one and make an immediate impact.
Given the solid class on the offensive side of the ball and the Tigers' need for a player like Anthony, Clemson is the place for him.
Tony Steward: Choosing UCLA over Florida Would Be Wrong Choice
2 of 5
Steward, the top-ranked inside linebacker in the country, is reportedly weighing UCLA along with Florida and Florida State.
Recent comments about his impressive trip to Los Angeles have the college football recruiting world thinking the Florida native just may bolt to the west coast.
If Steward does opt out of SEC or ACC play, it would be the wrong choice. UCLA has struggled to compete in the Pac-10 and hasn't done much to improve its chances this recruiting season. He would be best served leaving his decision between Florida and Florida State.
Jacoby Brissett: Choosing Florida Over Florida State Would Be Wrong Choice
3 of 5
Jacoby Brissett remains the nation's top undeclared quarterback and is reportedly being recruited by Florida strongly.
After it was heard that Brissett was favoring Florida State, the Gators jumped right in with a visit and more.
If Brissett is looking for the place to grow, Florida State is the place for him.
The Gators have committed Jeff Driskel, the top-ranked quarterback in the nation that would certainly challenge the dual-threat Brissett for playing time or push him to a different position.
At Florida State, Brissett would be QB 1 in the Seminoles' 2011 recruiting class.
Savon Huggins: Choosing North Carolina Over Notre Dame Would Be Wrong
4 of 5
Huggins is one of the nation's top-ranked running backs and remains undeclared while he decides between North Carolina, Auburn, Notre Dame and Rutgers.
Reports indicate that the New Jersey native is a North Carolina lean but he would be best served being the top-ranked running back on an otherwise spectacular Notre Dame 2011 recruiting class.
The Tarheels have signed with 4-star running back Travis Riley who'll undoubtedly take carries away from the likely every-down back. At Notre Dame, Huggins would be No. 1 on the depth chart in the class and possible the top running back in the program from Day 1.
Cyrus Kouandjio: Anywhere But Alabama Is Mistake for Top-Ranked Tackle
5 of 5
Cyrus Kouandjio has remained an interesting case throughout the recruiting season.
The 6'7'', 325-pound behemoth has been deciding between USC and Alabama, where his brother plays. Recently, however, Kouandjio has brought Iowa and New Mexico State in as other potential landing places. He'll even take a trip to Iowa this weekend.
If Kouandjio commits anywhere but Alabama, it would be a mistake. He has a golden opportunity to push his career along on one of the top teams in the nation's most dominating conference.
Passing up that opportunity would be the wrong choice.
