Ruud van Nistelrooy to Real Madrid? It's Not What You Think!
He wants to go, period. Seemingly out of nowhere, Real Madrid approached Ruud van Nistelrooy with an offer to return to Spain. Without batting an eyelash, the Dutchman accepted. Hold on, doesn't he have a contract with some German team...Hamburg? Angry at Real, Hamburg stood adamant with a firm "No."
In itself, it's not a bad thing to do on Ruud's part. Trying to leave a medium-sized club in favor of arguably the biggest club in the world is almost a no-brainer. But before we get wrapped in the hype like Ruud did, let's look at it in perspective.

Madrid is a club well known for mistreating its players, literally shaving them of every season. Ruud served Madrid like a loyal ox for years, scoring goals and winning games. Last season they refused to renew his contract and let him go on free transfer. They are the ones who dumped him, and now they need him to rescue them.
Or do they? Let's take a look at other potential strikers Real could buy. There's Milito, Forlan, Adebayor, Tevez, Amauri, Klose and Torres. For the good ones like Tevez, Torres and Forlan; they would have to pay huge amounts of money. The others, such as Adebayor and Amauri are sub-par players who lack the class and skill to play at a team like Real.
So the field is narrowed down to Ruud, a cheaper player who has experience in Spain and in the Champions League, and excellent finishing skills. He also has played with Cristiano Ronaldo at Real Madrid, and he is a veteran who is ideal for helping in the upbringing of Real's younger players and he could also help motivate Benzema; Real's out-of-form flop of a player.
But this is a player, who like Sneijder and Robben, didn't want to leave but was out of options. Ruud was emotionally attached to his team, but Florentino Perez shoved him into an escape pod and fired it into the abyss of the galaxy.
Many anti-Madridistas would tell you Real Madrid brainwashes players into signing for them, and then puts the same player on the chopping block when he is no longer needed. While part of that statement might be true, there is still something that makes the prospect of playing for them attractive to young players and older players alike.
Lastly, a lot of people are failing to think about what will happen to Ruud when beastly striker Gonzalo Higuain makes his comeback. The truth is he will be dead weight. It is doubtful that the then-35-year-old will be on Jose Mourinho's team sheet. So poor old Ruud will probably return to the chopping block, again.
