College Football 2011 Predictions: 10 Worst Offenses for 2011
Everyone wants a high powered offense, led by a dual-threat quarterback and a great running back tandem.
Some teams fail to have even a decent quarterback, or running back or wide receiver or...you get the point.
Some teams are just awful on offense.
This is a list of the teams who will struggle pitifully on offense in 2011.
10. Florida Atlantic University
1 of 10
The highlight of FAU's season was former quarterback Rusty Smith getting a start in the NFL.
Other than that, there wasn't much to be happy about. They averaged just 16.8 points a game and they lose quarterback Jeff Van Camp next year.
9. Colorado State Rams
2 of 10
On an offense that averaged just 16.5 points in 2010, Leonard Mason somehow averaged 5.6 yards a carry and scored five touchdowns.
The bad news is that Mason graduated.
Will someone step up to carry the offense in 2011? Unlikely.
8. New Mexico State
3 of 10
New Mexico State isn't exactly known for their football team.
If Matt Christian returns healthy in 2011 he could provide a spark to a slow Aggies offense. He threw for eight touchdowns and two interceptions in 2010.
However, if he continues to be injury prone, the Aggies will definitely repeat as a bottom 10 offense.
7. University of Nevada Las Vegas Rebels
4 of 10
UNLV averaged just 18.4 points a game last season and 274.2 yards a game.
In 2011 they will have a new starting quarterback, which means they likely will be even worse.
Or maybe it's a reason to have hope?
6. Kansas University Jayhawks
5 of 10
In Kansas' first year under Turner Gill they didn't fair too well.
Kansas averaged just 17.1 points a game and under 300 yards of offense per game.
The Jayhawks return young players at quarterback and running back, but it will take another season before they have a chance at being a good offense.
5. University of Memphis Tigers
6 of 10
In 2010 Memphis won just one game.
Their offense ranked 114th in the nation, and it didn't help that their defense was ranked 113th.
The Tigers lose running back Gregory Ray, who somehow managed 4.3 yards a carry in 2010.
They do return a freshmen quarterback who can give them hope, but that's all they have after averaging just 14.4 points a game in 2010.
4. SUNY at Buffalo Bulls
7 of 10
The Buffalo Bulls haven't had a good offense since Drew Willy graduated and Turner Gill left for Kansas.
They are unlikely to have a turnaround in 2011, despite returning much of their offense that averaged just 14.2 points a game in 2010.
3. University of Akron Zips
8 of 10
The Akron Zips are awful.
They return a quarterback who threw more interceptions than touchdowns and lose their star offensive player in running back Alex Allen.
Things don't look good for 2011 after they only averaged 15.6 points a game and an incredibly low 268.5 yards a game in 2010.
2. San Jose State
9 of 10
Last year San Jose State only won a single game, and that was against Southern Utah.
The worst part? Their quarterback wasn't bad, but he graduated.
In 2010 they averaged just 16.1 points a game. It should be worse in 2011.
1. University of New Mexico Lobos
10 of 10
Last year, the Lobos averaged a college football low 265.7 yards a game.
Their quarterback threw just two touchdowns, but managed six interceptions.
They return running back Kasey Carrier who averaged just 3.6 yards a carry in 2010.
Things don't look too bright.
