Stanford Cardinal Football: Wayne Lyons Heads List of Stanford Commitments

The 2010 season was a spectacular one for the Stanford program and 2011 could be just as special for the Cardinal.  Sure, head coach Jim Harbaugh bolted for the NFL, but there is still a ton to get excited about; including the return of quarterback Andrew Luck.

Another thing to get excited about are the list of commitments for the upcoming season. This class promises to be an exciting one.

So without any delay, let's take a look at the Top 10 2011 Stanford Cardinal commitments.

10. Charlie Hopkins, DE

1 of 10

Hopkins is a 6"6 defensive end out of Spokane, Washington. Hopkins was named First Team All-Greater Spokane League as a 2009 junior at Spokane Gonzaga Prep and named to the U.S. Army All-Combine Team honorable mention at defensive line.

He's a three-star recruit who ranks No. 38 among Scout.com defensive ends.

Hopkins not only has great size, but possesses excellent foot work and speed and has a knack for getting off of blocks.

9. Patrick Skov, FB

2 of 10

Skov follows his brother Shayne to Stanford and clocks in as the No. 5 fullback according to Scout.com.

He's an athlete who excelled on both sides of the ball in high school, also playing linebacker for Lawrenceville Prep in New Jersey.

The three-star recruit main asset is his strength. He He did 25 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press in the offseason with a max bench press of 405 pounds, a max squat of 405 pounds and boasts a 31-inch vertical leap.

8. Kevin Reihner, G

3 of 10

Scout.com has Reihner listed as a three-star recruit and the 24th ranked guard overall.

7. Kelsey Young, RB

4 of 10

Young, out of Norco, California, is a four-star recruit and the 21st ranked running back by Scout.com. He possesses a mix of good speed, and excellent balance and power.

He has good field vision and has great cutback ability.  He's generally tough for one tackler to bring down.

6. Ty Montgomery, WR

5 of 10

Montgomery is a another four-star Stanford recruit that Scout.com ranks as the 27th overall wide receiver. Out of Dallas, Texas, Montgomery lacks size, standing only 6"0 tall, but has pretty good speed.  he runs a 4.50 in the 40.

5. Remound Wright, RB

6 of 10

Wright is the second four-star running back in the 2011 class that will don the Cardinal jersey. Scout.com ranks Wright as its 20th overall running back and with good reason.

He lacks size, standing only 5"11, weighing 195 lbs, but he does a lot well.

Wright has great vision and can break tackles. He's hard to hit and has a low center of gravity.  He also has great hands and could line up as a slot receiver if needed.

4. Brendon Austin, OT

7 of 10

Austin is big, standing 6"6. He's a four-star recruit that ranks as the 14th overall tackle according to Scout.com. He has great reach, tremendous balance and is a solid pass protector.  He could use a little more weight, but that likely will come.

He is suited to play the left tackle right off the bat, but is athletic enough to play either side.

3. Kevin Hogan, QB

8 of 10

Hogan is a four-star recruit who is the 13th rated quarterback by Scout.com.  He has a very strong arm, sees the field well and has a great pocket presence.

2. James Vaughters, LB

9 of 10

Vaughters is another four-star recruit and Scout.com ranks him the seventh best linebacker.  He's strong and a tremendous athlete.  He likely could wind up playing defensive end, but he has the size and athletic ability to become a star at either position.

1. Wayne Lyons, S

10 of 10

Scout.com ranks Lyons as the eighth best safety.  This kid can become a big time play maker.  He is a very smart football player who sees the play before it develops.

He's as strong as he is fast.  He's aggressive playing both the run and the ball in the air and is a ferocious hitter.  he can likely help the Cardinal right away.
