East West Shrine Game: Day Two Stock Up Stock Down Report
The East West Shrine Bowl Game is quickly approaching and there is a flurry of activity. Teams are getting ready, coaches are mapping out their game plans and we have all the coverage you need on day two.
It should be a great contest as college’s top stars look to make one more lasting impression on pro scouts before they hang up the pads. Let’s get you caught up to speed on everything you need to know.
10 . Aldrick Is In
1 of 10
SMU’s standout wide out, Aldrick Robinson, is heading to the East West game. He had a tremendous season that included 14 TD receptions and 1,301 yards.
He’s the third SMU player to participate in the game in the last three years. He’ll be representing the west. So far the scouting report looks like he's ready to make an impact.
9. LSU Fills the Roster
2 of 10
It was announced that earlier this week tackle Joseph Barksdale and wideout Terrance Toliver will be playing as well.
So far Barksdale is impressing coaches with his ability to contain the pass rush.
8. Pat Devlin Makes a Splash
3 of 10
Of all the quarterbacks playing, the one to watch for might be quarterback Pat Delvin. A transfer from Penn State, he made his mark as the starting QB for Delaware. During the season he threw for 22 touchdowns and 3,000 yards.
However, if early reports are accurate he's having trouble making the reads and handling the pressure. He can't have a Joe Flacco story, unless he plays like him.
7. Marvin Austin Drawing Fire
4 of 10
It turns out that Marvin Austin gets to play in the all star game, even when he didn’t get to play in the regular season. It seems that there was some improper contact between him and agents and he was forced to sit out a season.
Now he’s going to play(with the North Carolina helmet) and try and up his draft stock one last time before the combine. From the looks of it he's going to need to get in shape.
While Austin looked better on day two, he's still nowhere near the football shape he needs to be in.
6. Karl Klug Not Impressing
5 of 10
It turns out that sometimes these games are a way to lose draft status. Iowa’s Karl Klug is drawing fire for not being really fast and the DE position, and not really strong on the DT position.
Being too slow, or too weak, isn't a way to get drafted.
5. Da Real Da’Rel
6 of 10
Marylands somewhat undersized RB Da’Rel Scott is impressing people during his first two practices. He’s running hard and could end up being the breakout star of the game.
4. Tyrod Taylor Sticking To It
7 of 10
The Virginia Tech QB is capable of a lot on the football field, but don’t expect to see most of it. The man who has been known to return punts, kicks, and run routes won’t be doing any of that this weekend.
The QB, who plans to enter this year’s draft, wants to prove he’s a quarterback. At 6’1 it’s tough to convince people of that.
3. Chris Walker Wants In
8 of 10
Tennessee DE Chris Walker has got the chance to play in the game and will be makng the most of it. After a disappointing senior season, Walker knows he’s got one chance to up his draft stock. He is out to prove he’s healthy.
So far he looks poised to prove the critics wrong.
2. Commitment or Evaluation
9 of 10
Wade Phillips, after being named the Houston Texans Defensive Coordinator, will honor his commitment to the East West game and coach the West.
But is it about commitment, or does Phillips know his Texans need help and he can use this as a chance to evaluate the second tier talent on the field? Many of these guys will be on the board for the Texans in the later round.
1.Terrell McClain Laying it on the Line
10 of 10
No one has more to prove than McClain. The South Florida defensive tackle could shoot up the draft board if the can handle the pass rush better this Sunday.
If he fails to apply pressure against questionable O-lineman, he’ll be waiting a long time for his number to be called.
