College Football Recruiting 2011: The Uncommitted Recruiting All-Star Team
Jumping into the recruiting scene late can be detrimental, as many of the top prospects have already made their intentions known, yet there's still a good amount of stud players who remain uncommitted.
We're fielding an all-star team of the top high school players in the country who've yet to announce where they will be playing for the next four to five years.
Check out who we like.
CB: Marcus Roberson
1 of 22
Roberson is a 6'1", 170-pouund corner prospect who can be left on an island and charged with mirroring a team's top receiver.
He has athleticism and cover ability to give defensive coordinators flexibility and creativity within their schemes. His height and leaping ability allow him to match up with receivers of all sizes.
He's currently down to Auburn, USC, Texas Tech, Georgia, and Florida.
CB: Stefan McClure
2 of 22
McClure is a cornerback prospect who not only excels in man coverage but also in off-man, and zone coverage.
He has solid awareness and instincts on the perimeter and plays like he's 6'2" and not 5'11". He's only 170 pounds but makes up for his lack of bulk with toughness against the run and comes out of his backpedal very smoothly.
He's looking at Boise State, Cal, and UCLA among other schools.
DS: Erique Florence
3 of 22
Florence is an athletic safety from Valley (AL) who can play the run and pass.
He has the speed and range to give quarterbacks fits on the backend, and can also be a nickel defender in the slot. Florence also has the toughness and instincts to read run quickly, and comes up to challenge the line of scrimmage to fill holes and alleys.
Auburn, Arkansas, USC, and Alabama are the favorites.
DS: Malcolm Mitchell
4 of 22
Mitchell is the prototypical free safety prospect.
Long and rangy, he patrols the top of the defense with instincts and uses his ball skills to pluck away passes. His cover skills are so good that he could even develop into a big corner in college, as he possesses the hips, transition, and recovery speed to mirror receivers.
He'll decide between Alabama and Georgia.
LB: Tony Steward
5 of 22
Steward may be the most athletic linebacker in the country.
He could play all three spots in a 4-3 and factor as a pass defender as well. Instincts, athletic ability, speed, and range all make up his strongest assets. He could easily play all three downs and do so early in his college career.
He's down to Florida State, Clemson and UCLA.
LB: Stephone Anthony
6 of 22
Anthony is a 6'3", 220-pound linebacker who, like Steward, is also versatile and can various positions at linebacker.
He's hailed as an excellent wrap tackler who explodes upon contact. He's physical at the point of attack and has the speed to chase and pursue the backside. Anthony also is a solid blitzer.
It's all even between Clemson, Florida, Virgina Tech, NC State, and UNC.
LB: Curtis Grant
7 of 22
Grant is among the most physical players in the country and linebacker suits him well.
He can run and hit well, but is not a reckless player who plays undisciplined. He keys and diagnoses quickly, fills holes and explodes into ball carriers. He's a solid underneath zone defender against the pass and buzzes well.
He's down to Virginia, Ohio State, Florida, and North Carolina.
DE: Ray Drew
8 of 22
Drew is an athletic 6'5", 245-pound perimeter trench menace who plays run as well as he rushes the passer.
He has the stregnth to steer tackles and shed quickly to stop oncoming ball carriers and the speed to chase down from the line of scrimmage. He has an excellent first step and his long frame allows him to stay clean from offensive tackles.
He's looking at Georgia, Alabama, Miami, Clemson and Florida among a plethora of schools.
DE: Jadeveon Clowney
9 of 22
Clowney remains uncomitted, and the nation's top recruit will do so until signing day. 6'6" and 250 pounds, Clowney can do it all at defensive end. He has the makings of a strong side player which is rare to already have on the prep level.
Clowney is very strong against the run and can anchor against tackles. His pass rush is relentless and his speed and quickness allow him to blow by blockers en route to the quarterback.
The favorites are Alabama and South Carolina with LSU, Ohio State, Florida and Florida State in the mix.
DT: Tim Jernigan
10 of 22
Jernigan is a 6'2", 275 pound defensive line prospect who colleges want because of all the versatility he possesses.
He can easily play the swing lineman role for a team where he could start at the three-technique one week, and kick out to strong side defensive end the next week. Jernigan is supremely quick, explosive and strong.
He's down to LSU, Florida State, and Alabama. Also don't count out Florida.
DT: Marquise Wright
11 of 22
Wright probably will grow into a run stuffing one-technique type interior defensive lineman, though he could two-gap or even bounce over and play the the three-technique.
He's very physical inside and latches on quickly to offensive linemen. He's quick to read run, shed and pursue the ball, usually plugging holes. He can rush with power and quickness and penetrate gaps to chase quarterbacks.
Wright will decide between North Carolina, Michigan State, Rutgers, and Miami.
OL: Cyrus Kouandjio
12 of 22
Kouandjio, of DeMatha (MD) is a gifted tackle prospect who could play LT, RT, or move inside to guard.
He's 6'6", 320-pounds, and has strength to spare. He fires out in the run game and has the ability to adjust to hit moving targets on the second level. He's still developing as a pass protector, yet has an enormous amount of potential and athleticism to slide, mirror, and recover vs. pass rushers.
He's looking at Alabama, USC, New Mexico, and Iowa among others.
OL: Antonio Richardson
13 of 22
Richardson, at 6'6" and 310-pounds, has the makings of a prototypical right tackle prospect.
He's terror in the run game, driving defenders of their marks and punishing them for even opposing his block. He's nasty and looks to finish. Richardson is also athletic enough to make blocks on the second level and hold his own as a pass protector.
Tennessee, USC, Miami, Auburn, LSU, and Arkansas are all in it.
OL: Cyrus Hobbi
14 of 22
Hobbi is an outstanding guard prospect who looks like a left guard since he' so sound as a pass protector. A rare trait that Hobbi has right now is his knowledge of proper hand placement as a blocker.
Most high school lineman either just maul defenders or use their athleticism to stay in front of them. Hobbi is also very strong in the run game and move tackles out of the way with ease.
Arizona State is fighting UCLA, and USC for his services.
OL: Alex Mitchell
15 of 22
There are some players who play with power, then there is Alex Mitchell, a 6'2", 310 pound offensive guard from Portland,OR.
Mitchell looks like a great right guard as he defines the term road grader. He's very strong and has a great anchor. He has great grab strength and explodes in his punch. He doesn't play high and has great natural knee bend and short area ability.
He's looking at scholarship offers from Idaho and Southern Methodist.
OL: Mo Latu
16 of 22
Latu is the top center prospect left on the board and is a good one.
6'2", 306-pounds, he may be getting looks as a defensive tackle, yet he's a promising prospect playing the pivot and can anchor an offensive line very well. He's very strong and can set protections well. Latu also has the quickness to get out and pull on run plays.
He's looking at Oregon, Arizona State, and Missouri.
TE: Nick O'Leary
17 of 22
The top tight end in the country, O'Leary is also the grandson of golfing legend Jack Nicklaus.
O'Leary doesn't play football like a golfer at all. He's very intense, physical, and strong. He runs great routes, works the seams, fills defensive zone voids, and is a terror after the catch. He's also strong enough to factor as a run blocker.
He's currently leaning toward Florida State, with other schools like Alabama, Miami, LSU, and Wisconsin in the mix.
WR: Junior Pomee
18 of 22
A one-time UCLA commit, Pomee re-opened his recruitment a short time ago with USC and Florida jumping into the mix.
6'3" and 210-pounds, Pomee has solid speed on the perimeter, though he's not a blazer. He uses his size to shield defenders from the ball and out muscles corners for jump balls.
Pomee has the bulk and strength to factor as a blocker as well.
WR: Devin Lucien
19 of 22
Lucien looks like a college receiver right now and his frame is not even finished developing yet.
6'2" and 190-pounds Lucien has tremendous ball skills, concentration, hands, and the ability to catch in a crowd. He's nightmare on jump balls and has solid speed to jump on top of defensive backs. He's quarterback friendly and always works his way back during scramble situations.
He visited nearby UCLA this past weekend and also is looking at Michigan, Miami, Arizona State, Kentucky, and Colorado.
RB: Savon Huggins
20 of 22
Huggins is an every down type back, which is rare with evolution of the spread offenses that are ran today.
He has good size at 6'0" and weighs about 190-pounds. Huggins has the quickness and burst to get to and through holes and the strength to break tackles. He also has the speed and homerun ability to take the rock to the house at any given time.
He's down to Rutgers, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Michigan State, and Auburn.
RB: Isaiah Crowell
21 of 22
Crowell is a special running back who reminds us of Seahawks' back Marshawn Lynch, just due to their similar dreads.
Crowell has thick legs and a powerful build at 5'11" and weighs a solid 210-pounds. Yet what makes Crowell so special is his game breaking ability. He's a homerun threat and has speed, quickness, agility, and stop/start ability.
It'll come down to Georgia and Alabama.
QB: Jacoby Brissett
22 of 22
Many times with a lot of spread option type quarterbacks, they tend to be in the 6'0" to 6'2" range as for height. Brissett is 6'5" and also weighs nearly 230-pounds.
He's the teammate and quarterback of Nick O'Leary and has a very strong arm. Brissett also has the ability to buy time with his legs and can make plays on the run. He puts touch on his balls when needed and has solid accuracy.
Florida State seems to be the favorite with Wisconsin, LSU, and Notre Dame all in the mix among other schools.
