UFC Fight For The Troops 2 Results: Medical Suspensions

Sean SmithJan 25, 2011

As a result of hand injuries suffered in their fights at UFC Fight For The Troops 2, two fighters have been suspended indefinitely from competition.

As has become the standard for fighters who have been knocked out, three other fighters were suspended for one month for precautionary reasons.

In his fight with Tim Hague, Matt Mitrione broke the second metacarpal in his left hand. Mitrione was able to finish Hague inside of three minutes, which might have prevented further injury. Mitrione can be cleared to fight by an orthopedic doctor.

Willamy Freire suffered multiple injuries in his unanimous decision loss to Waylon Lowe. In order to return to action, Freire's injuries to his right hand and cheek will need to be cleared by an orthopedic doctor. With eleven consecutive victories heading into his UFC debut, the 23-year-old Freire still has a promising future.

UFC Fight For The Troops 2 ended in exciting fashion. Each of the final three fights on the card were decided by first-round technical knockouts. On the receiving end of those beatings, Evan Dunham, Tim Hague and George Roop will be unable to compete until February 22 as precaution.

Not mentioned in the list of suspensions was Joey Beltran, who could barely stand at the end of his fight with Pat Barry. Beltran absorbed numerous kicks to the thigh area from Barry, a former professional kickboxer.

Because of an accidental eye poke in the third round, Beltran also appeared to have trouble with his vision in the fight's closing moments.

Also omitted from the suspension list was Mike Guymon. Forced to tap as DaMarques Johnson took his back with a body triangle, Guymon appeared to have suffered a back or rib injury as he rolled over in pain.

Considering he said he was going to retire after the fight, Guymon's omission might not matter anyway.

Below is the complete list of UFC Fight For The Troops 2 medical suspensions:

  • Williamy Freire: Suspended indefinitely for right hand and right cheek injuries
  • Matt Mitrione: Suspended indefinitely for an injured second metacarpal on his left hand
  • Evan Dunham: Suspended until February 22 as precaution
  • Tim Hague: Suspended until February 22 as precaution
  • George Roop: Suspended until February 22 as precaution
