Volkanovski breaks record after title win at UFC 333

According to ESPN, Volkanovski landed 45 of his 109 attempted strikes and took down Evloev once on two tries, while Evloev connected on 37 of his 88 strikes and took Volkanovski down three times on seven attempts.
Volkanovski has a long list of achievements in his storied career, but this win should go down as one of his best. To beat an undefeated prospect with as much momentum and hype as Evloev at 38 years old is a rare feat.
The victory was so impressive, in fact, that MMA History Today on X made a bold declaration regarding where Volkanovski stands among the all-time greats in the featherweight division:
The smaller divisions have typically belonged to young fighters and Volkanovski continues to prove he's the best as he approaches 40.
His time in the featherweight division could be coming to a close, though. Of all the fights that could be next for Volk, it's a potential lightweight title fight that has his attention.
"Imagine that, do it as a send-off," Volkanovski told the "Who Da Fook Are These Guys?" podcast, per Brett Okamoto of ESPN. "Gaethje, Volk. I think he's said that he maybe has one more. That could be a superfight. Let's do a superfight with the lightweight title on the line. We can both see everyone off with a crazy superfight. That could be really good."
Volkanovski has done a lot in his career, but he's come up short in his attempts to be a two-division champion. He dropped two fights against Islam Makhachev in his quest for the lightweight belt.
However, Gaethje is a much different fight stylistically that could afford him the opportunity to make his dreams of holding two belts true.
That, combined with an impressive win over Evloev could drive his already impressive legacy even further.
