Nate Diaz vs. Rory MacDonald in the Works for UFC 129

Dale De SouzaJan 14, 2011

Last time an American faced Rory MacDonald in Canada, they handed him his first career loss in the third round.

MacDonald hadn't been seen much since that loss, which he can thank Carlos Condit for, even if he doesn't want to.

Besides, in the eloquently orated words of Fedor Emelianenko, "The man who doesn't fall, doesn't stand up."

Fanhouse MMA reports that at UFC 129 in Toronto, MacDonald will have an opportunity to stand back up, but to stand back up, he'll have to knock Nate Diaz down in the process.

Diaz, much like MacDonald, is in need of a help back up after being defeated by the tactical Judo repertoire of "The Stun Gun" Dong Hyun Kim a few weeks ago at UFC 125.

The loss, unlike MacDonald's loss to Condit, was only the first loss Diaz has had since moving up to welterweight.

All this fight means for both men is that the winner gets back on the winning track and continues their quest for Georges St-Pierre's welterweight belt, and the loser of this bout goes on a two-fight skid.

Depending on what happens though, maybe a two-fight skid won't be so bad for either man—at least, not if they try to finish the other fighter.

How can we know that this one will end in a finish?

Simple: MacDonald has never gone the distance in any fight, and even though Diaz took Josh Neer the distance in September 2008, Diaz rather hates decisions—he's lost five times by decision.

After losing by the scores to Kim, you can bet that Diaz will be looking to lay a Stockton smack-down on MacDonald in front of MacDonald's home crowd.

Diaz better be careful though, because "The Waterboy" will look to do the same come April 30.
