National Signing Day 2011: The Top Prospects Who Will Wait To Make Commitments

Edwin WeathersbyJan 13, 2011

National Signing Day is the most important day in college football recruiting as it is the day most recruits wait until to make their college choices known. Many recruiting fans go so far as to calling it a holiday.

Well as much as those fans are praying for their favorite teams to land a top notch recruiting class, these 11 prep stars are going to have fan bases on edge until singing day.

Check out who's going to wait to announce their decision on February 2nd.

11. Erique Florence

1 of 11

Florence is a 6'2" safety from Valley (AL) and has a top four that consists of USC, Auburn, Alabama and Arkansas.

He will visit USC this weekend with Alabama slated to see him next week. He has already taken a visit to Auburn last month, which has sparked rumors that he is a Tiger lean.

Florence could be blown away by Los Angeles, love the Hogs or want to stay in state for one of the big two, but we likely won't know until NSD.

10. Savon Huggins

2 of 11

Huggins is an every-down-back-type from St. Peter's Prep in New Jersey. He impressed at the Under Armour game workouts by showing the potential of factoring both as a runner and as a receiver on third downs.

He is currently looking at Notre Dame, Rutgers, North Carolina and Michigan State. He still claims he is open, yet rumors are rampant linking him to all four schools.

His final visit will be to in-state Rutgers next weekend, and we should know where he will be running to soon after, perhaps on signing day.

9. Marcus Roberson

3 of 11

Roberson is a talented cornerback prospect from the Miami area with good size and athleticism on a 6'1" frame.

He has taken trips to Auburn, Texas Tech, Georgia and USC this month. Hometown Miami is a still hanging on in the picture, with new coach Al Golden coming on strong to keep Roberson home with The U.

Right now, Auburn is the leader and National Champions sit comfortably in the clubhouse. He'll make his intentions known officially on NSD.

8. Jeoffrey Pagan

4 of 11

Pagan has the potential to play anywhere among the defensive front, inside or outside. He has the size to hold in the interior and the athletic ability to menace on the edge, once he recovers from a torn ACL.

He was previously solid to Florida yet re-opened his recruitment. Pagan will visit Clemson, Alabama and Tennessee this month.

Georgia, LSU, USC and Oregon are other schools who will be on his trail through singing day.

7. Ray Drew

5 of 11

Drew is a 6'5", 245 pound defensive end from Georgia who can do it all. He has a tall frame which will easily add on another 20 pounds and the strength to shed blockers to play the run.

He has very good intitial quickness at the snap and a burst to finish in the pocket. He will come down to Clemson, Auburn, Georgia, LSU and Miami, who scored a visit with Drew this weekend.

Drew is an ordained minister and will be praying for guidance to make the best choice come signing day.

6. Tony Steward

6 of 11

Steward is an athletic linebacker who can play all three spots in a 4-3 alignment. He can line up the defense at Mike, chase from the back side at Will and cover tight ends at Sam.

Steward has a slew of offers and has visited UCLA. Clemson and Florida State will have a shot to impress him up close this month as he will visit both schools, respectively. Alabama and Auburn are also very high on his list and will likely get visits, as well.

In high demand for his versatility and athleticism, Steward certainly will not be short of options on NSD.

5. Cyrus Kouandjio

7 of 11

Kouandjio is a mammoth offensive tackle prospect who very well could develop into an elite left tackle down the road. He's 6'6", 320 pounds and has good feet.

He needs to continue developing his slide and adjust ability as a pass protector, but he has the potential to be an all-conference performer.

He will decide between Alabama, USC, Iowa, New Mexico, Miami and Auburn.

4. Tim Jernigan

8 of 11

Jernigan is a future swing defensive lineman who will be able to play inside as a three technique and also moonlight outside as a strong side defensive end. He has explosion, quickness and strength to do what he wants in the trenches.

A self-confessed Florida Gator fan throughout his childhood, Jernigan is down to LSU, Alabama and Florida State.

While he says Florida could get back in it, we believe LSU is the team to beat right now for Jernigan's letter of intent signature.

3. Isaiah Crowell

9 of 11

Crowell is regarded as a rival to Malcolm Brown for the top running back in the country crown. He is bigger than you think at 5'11", 200 pounds and also can wave at you while he's running by you.

Crowell has stated he wanted to make his decision this month or late last month, but he still is torn and could hold off until signing day.

While Auburn is in the race, we believe it will come down to in-state Georgia and Alabama.

2. Curtis Grant

10 of 11

Grant is a physical linebacker who would in a 3-4 as well as he'd fit in a 4-3. He has great instincts and and explodes at the point of attack.

We're not sure if there is anyone in the country as open as Grant is with him finally listing Ohio State, Virginia, North Carolina and Florida as schools he's keen on. He loved his visit to Columbus, yet still is slated to see Florida this weekend and North Carolina next weekend.

Florida and Ohio State could be the final two standing with Florida winning out.

1. Jadeveon Clowney

11 of 11

Clowney, a 6'6", 240-pound defensive end from South Pointe (SC) is the top overall recruit in the country. He is an excellent player and physically imposing athlete. Clowney has a burst in his first, speed to pursue backside, a long wing span and strength to anchor on the edge vs. the run.

He hasn't really said all too much himself in regard to his recruitment, yet the consensus is in-state South Carolina and Alabama are the front runners.

With his good friend Lateek Townsend headed to Clemson and not South Carolina and his very close relationship with Tide defensive coach Mike Rumph, Alabama seems to have the edge over South Carolina right now. But stay tuned.
