Solution to The BCS Problem: Playoffs and Bowl Games? Why It Makes Sense
Most college football fans and pundits can all agree on one thing, the BCS and bowl system just does not work. This was especially seen after the Rose Bowl where Non-AQ TCU beat Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl and finished with an undefeated season.
While the BCS bowl system does not work and shouldn't be used anymore, most fans do love Bowl Mania. Bowl Mania is fun, and the historical stature of several bowl games, mainly the Rose Bowl and Cotton Bowl.
Plus fans of teams that don't make the playoffs will want the bowl games back, just to see their team to play another game. And that's just human nature right there.
What the NCAA should do is implement a playoff system, but at the same time keep the bowl games, and, wait for it, keep the BCS.
How it would work is as most fans and pundits are saying, a 16-team bracket. How the teams would be chosen will be with conference champions. The 11 conference champions and five at-large teams will make the playoff spots. The five at-large teams would be chose by the five highest rated teams, that aren't conference champions.
That is where the BCS will come into play. The BCS ranking poll is the only thing of the BCS poll that should be kept.
But what about the bowl games and those teams that aren't fortunate enough to play in the playoffs. That's where the bowl games come into play. Take teams that have won eight or more games and match the up into bowl games. It's not a championship, but those teams still get to play a bowl game, Bowl Mania is kept, and really everybody win. Fans that want bowl games and fans that want a playoff system to decide the national championship all get what the want.
And the NCAA gets their money, something that they will find just as happy.
