Auburn Could Have Back-to-Back Heisman Trophy Winners
Cameron Newton, who became the third Heisman Trophy winner in Auburn history, could have some company in 2011.
Micheal Dyer had the best freshman season by an Auburn running back ever. When you consider Auburn is referred to a 'Running Back University', then that is saying a lot.
Dyer ran for over 1,093 yards this season. Former Heisman winner Bo Jackson only ran for 829 in his freshman season. Bo Jackson had four more touchdowns, but Bo was also used more in goal line situations.
It's not just Dyer's incredible statistical season that makes his future look so bright. The way he compiled his numbers was impressive.
With Dyer's low center of gravity, he forces the tackler to get low. He reminds me of former Rutgers running back Ray Rice. The tools are there for Dyer to be the league's best running back for the next three years.
Cameron Newton was the focus point of the offense, and perhaps he helped take some of the defensive focus off of Dyer.
I'd say it made the learning curb easier too, but without Newton he might have gotten even more touches and could have been the rushing leader in the SEC.

This was an amazing season for Dyer. He went from an Arkansas high school to national champion. Dyer has put down the foundation for a great career with Auburn.
I don't know if he'll win the Doak Walker Award or the Heisman Trophy in 2011. However the tools are there to become Auburn's fourth Heisman winner.
