National Signing Day: Power Ranking the Recruiting Classes of the ACC Before NSD
With National Signing Day looming in the near future, the recruiting classes of each and every college football team are starting to fill up.
By February 2nd, all the answers will be firmly in place, but for now, some top players are still being fought over.
Now that we're getting closer, let's take a look at the recruiting classes of the ACC.
(Note: All player ratings and rankings are from Scout.com.)
12. North Carolina State
1 of 12
The North Carolina State recruiting class is simply awful. There's no way around that.
The Wolfpack has had 14 commitments so far, but only five of them have been 3-star players.
Quarterback Brian Taylor, offensive tackle Joe Thuney and outside linebacker Mike Rose are three of those players, but the other two both play special teams.
Besides the aforementioned kicker and punter, no player is in the top 50 at his respective position.
Not a single player is in the top 100 overall prospects.
11. Wake Forest
2 of 12
Wake Forest has received 13 commitments, but none have been 4-star or 5-star prospects.
While 10 have earned three stars, not one player squeezed his way into the nation's top 100 overall prospects.
Only eight players are even in the top 100 at their respective positions. The best is clearly middle linebacker Anthony Harrell.
The 6'3" senior at Jesuit High School is the 37th-rated player at his position.
10. Duke
3 of 12
So far, Duke has had 20 players commit, 12 of which received 3-star ratings. Not one, though, was in the nation's overall top 100.
One could make an argument that Will Monday was the best recruit of all. The punter from Flowery Branch, Georgia is the top-rated punter in the country.
Besides Monday, Duke's highest-rated player for his position is Lucas Patrick, the No. 49 offensive guard.
9. Maryland
4 of 12
The Maryland Terrapins have had 23 players commit, 13 of which have been 3-star recruits.
Fullback Tyler Cierski is the sixth-ranked fullback in the nation, and he's given a soft verbal commitment. Then there's the No. 15 center, Evan Mulrooney.
After that, the Terrapins have nine more players ranked in the top 100 at their positions.
However, not one recruit earns the distinction of a spot on the overall top 100 list.
8. Georgia Tech
5 of 12
Georgia Tech has had 18 commitments thus far, but the vast majority—14, in fact—have been 3-star recruits.
The other four were even worse.
Tech's four best players will all play on the defensive side of the ball. Those include No. 29 outside linebacker Jabari Hunt-Days, No. 30 middle linebacker Tremayne McNair, No. 44 safety Domonique Noble and No. 51 safety Darren Waller.
Eight of the other 10 3-star recruits are in the top 100 at their respective positions, but no players are in the top 100 overall.
7. Miami
6 of 12
Miami only has eight commitments, but six of those players are 3-star prospects, and another one was a 4-star.
The lone 4-star for the Hurricanes is defensive end Anthony Chickillo. He's given a soft verbal commitment and is the No. 16 defensive end in the nation.
Miami's only skill position recruit is wide receiver Phillip Dorsett.
6. Virginia Tech
7 of 12
The Hokies have received 18 commitments, nine of which have been 3-stars and five of which have been 4-stars.
Virginia Tech's top incoming player is No. 14 defensive tackle Corey Marshall. Also in the top 20 at their positions are the fellow 4-star recruits.
They include wide receiver Lafonte Thourogood, defensive tackle Kris Harley, safety Ronny Vandyke and cornerback Kyshoen Jarrett.
5. Boston College
8 of 12
Boston College has 23 commitments so far in the recruiting process. Fourteen are 3-star recruits, and two are 4-stars.
One is even in the overall top 100.
That player is the second-ranked safety in the country, Albert Louis-Jean.
Boston College's other 4-star player is No. 10 tight end Brian Miller.
The recruiting class isn't very strong in general, but Louis-Jean propels them above a lot of other teams.
4. Virginia
9 of 12
Virginia may not have a top 100 player, but 20 of their 24 commitments are 3-star players or better.
The three 4-stars are cornerback Demetrious Nicholson, offensive tackle Jay Whitmire and wide receiver Clifton Richardson.
The Cavaliers do have 15 players that are in the top 100 at their respective positions.
3. North Carolina
10 of 12
North Carolina's recruiting class is the 14th best in the country according to Scout.com.
They have signed 20 players, three of which are in the top 100 overall. Two of those players are 5-stars, and another four have just one less star.
The two 5-stars are No. 3 offensive tackle Kiaro Holts and No. 4 middle linebacker Travis Hughes.
2. Clemson
11 of 12
With three 5-star prospects and an additional five 4-stars, the Clemson Tigers lay claim to the seventh-best recruiting class in the country.
Their offense is going to especially potent since all three 5-stars play skill positions.
The No. 2 and No. 3-ranked wide receivers, Sammy Watkins and Charone Peake, are two of the three players. The final one is No. 4 running back Mike Bellamy.
1. Florida State
12 of 12
With two 5-star prospects and nine 4-stars, the Florida State Seminoles have the best recruiting class so far in the ACC and the fourth best in the country.
Cornellius Carradine is a 5-star junior college transfer that plays defensive end.
Joining him on the defensive front will be the nation's best outside linebacker, James Wilder. Wilder is the ninth-ranked overall prospect at any position.
