College Football Recruiting 2011: Which Top 25 Recruiting Classes Could Shatter?

Bleacher ReportJun 6, 2018

Many of the top-ranked college football recruits of 2011 have offered verbal commitments to schools, but a handful of highly-ranked players have yet to offer a verbal.

Regardless, no players in the class of 2011 can officially sign with their team until February 2, which means there is still a chance for many players to de-commit. Some schools have experienced the loss of verbally-committed players already, and it stands to reason that many others will, too.

Whether it's because of the de-commitment of prized recruits or the potential loss of similar top players, many recruiting classes can be considered vulnerable heading into the final stretch of the recruiting season.

With that said, here are the most fragile top recruiting classes this year.

Ole Miss

Gerod Holliman

The Rebels lost out on Gerod Holliman (pictured) and Eli Rogers, who took back their verbal commitments only to sign as a pair at Louisville.

Without Holliman, the Ole Miss 2011 class lacks a certain star power. With a handful of 4-star recruits, the Rebels remain in the top 20 among the nation's top recruiting classes.

The departure of Holliman, along with Rogers, sure hurts Ole Miss moving forward though. Time will only tell if the 16th-ranked class in the nation can bounce back.

Texas

Christian Westerman

Despite the fact the Longhorns' offensive and defensive coordinator positions have been officially resolved, Texas could see a spike in de-commits.

Top-ranked offensive tackle Christian Westerman (pictured) is a prime example of a player who seemed fully committed to Texas before announcing he has reopened the doors for other teams. USC and Auburn are currently on Westerman's list leading up to National Signing Day.

Running back Malcolm Brown had also been rumored to be a potential de-commit amidst the coaching and coordinator confusion, but things seem to be cleared up now that Major Applewhite is indeed staying with the Longhorns.

South Carolina

Jadeveon Clowney

The Gamecocks currently hold the 22nd-ranked recruiting class in the country. Plainly put, if South Carolina lands Jadeveon Clowney (pictured), the top-ranked player in the country, the Gamecocks will catapult to the top of the list.

If South Carolina somehow misses out on its native son though, it will have a hard time getting over the hump in the SEC.

Georgia

Isaiah Crowell

The Bulldogs have already put together a solid class, but the hype put forth by their 2011 "Dream Team" recruiting class hinges on the next three weeks.

With Isaiah Crowell (pictured) still undecided and counting the Bulldogs among his favorites, Georgia's 2011 class we'll finally know what to expect from the Bulldogs in the coming years on February 2.

Crowell is the top-ranked running back and certainly a player who can make or break the Bulldogs' class. If Georgia does sign Crowell, the "Dream Team" name will live up to the hype. If the Bulldogs lose out on the star running back, it may be a tough go in the SEC in the coming season.

Michigan

Justice Hayes

In the wake of Rich Rodriguez's firing and leading up to today's hiring of Brady Hoke, the Wolverines were hit hard by de-commitals. While things could be finally looking up in Ann Arbor, Hoke has his work cut out for him in the final weeks of the recruiting season.

The Wolverines face the potential loss of Justice Hayes (pictured), who did remain publicly committed to Michigan, but had to have been searching other opportunities in the confusion leading up to Hoke's hiring.

Hayes has a history of not being true to his word; at one point he was a solid verbal to Notre Dame before backing out to head to Michigan.

This comes on the heels of Dee Hart's de-commital and verbal to Alabama.

Hayes is an elusive running back and a make-or-break type of player who'll no doubt swing Michigan's recruiting class depending on if he stays or goes.

Florida

Jeoffrey Pagan

Florida, which features the 19th-ranked recruiting class in 2011, has lost a handful of key commitments in the wake of Urban Meyer's departure.

While Meyer's replacement, Will Muschamp, has certainly picked up the pieces and moved on in the all-important recruiting game, the Gators' 2011 class sure took a hit when the 2-time national championship winning coach took off.

The Gators lost Ryan Shazier to Ohio State and Nick Waisome to rival Florida State. Jeoffrey Pagan (pictured) reopened the doors again after giving his verbal around Thanksgiving, and the Gators are set to lose three highly-regarded recruits.
