Michigan Football: Brady Hoke Named 19th Wolverine Coach
Michigan wound up with a Michigan Man after all.
Brady Hoke, who coached the defensive line for Michigan from 1995-2002, was named Michigan’s19th football coach today by Athletic Director Dave Brandon.
"We are pleased to announce the hiring of Brady," said Brandon. "He is a terrific coach and will be a great ambassador and leader for our football program. We look forward to having him build a championship program on the field and in the classroom."
Hoke began his head coaching career at Ball State at 2003. He suffered through four losing seasons, before earning bowl berths in 2007 and 2008.
Hoke moved up to the San Diego State job in 2009, finishing 4-9 in his first season before earning a Poinsettia Bowl berth this past season with a 8-4 overall mark and a 5-3 Mountain West record.
San Diego State won the Poinsettia Bowl with a 35-14 win over Navy.
Hoke has always looked at the Michigan position as his “dream job.”
Before joining Carr’s staff at Michigan, Hoke had assistant coaching jobs at Grand Valley State, Western Michigan, Toledo and Oregon State.
A native of Dayton, Ohio, Hoke played his college ball at Ball State from 1977-80.
Michigan will hold a press conference Wednesday (Jan. 12) at 1 pm EST to introduce the new coach.
