College Football Recruiting 2011: Top Commitments That Could Force Transfers
There are times when a star recruit signing with your favorite school is not always a good thing, as their talent and hype can scare some current players off a college football roster and force them to transfer out.
Many times the transferring player is a young player who feels that he may not get playing time due to the incoming recruit having so much hype.
Let's check out some interesting scenarios that could have a top flight incoming committed player forcing a player on your favorite team out the door.
Cal's Incoming Defensive Line Recruits Of Moala, Jalil and Barr
1 of 10
The Bears have garnered commitment from three of the top 15 overall defensive line recruits in the country, which is a remarkable feat for Cal and a problem for the rest of the Pac-12 offensive line units.
Mustafa Jalil and Viliami Moala are two of the best interior defensive linemen in the country and defensive tackles such as DeAunre Coleman and Gabe King could be on the move.
Todd Barr is a very talented defensive end prospect who will look to get after the passer early in his freshman season, which could force Austin Clark away from Strawberry Hill.
Jabari Gorman's Arrival at Florida
2 of 10
Jabari Gorman is among the top safety prospects in the land and could be poised to see time as a sub-package defender early in his freshman year to gain some experience in the back end for the future.
As Gorman learns the ropes of the pro style defense new Gator defensive coordinator Dan Quinn will be installing, he could shoot up the depth chart and overtake talented players such as Josh Shaw and more so Josh Evans.
Could Gorman being a Gator mean Florida loses two other defensive backs? Stay tuned.
DeAnthony Thomas Could Impact Trojans' Deptch Chart Three Ways
3 of 10
DeAnthony Thomas is among the top overall players in this class and may be the best ATH in the country. Many project Thomas to play cornerback at USC, though he has played safety and running back in high school.
With Thomas' coming to USC as a cornerback first, USC could see TJ Bryant and Torin Harris look to leave.
Thomas is also a very talented return man and could be poised to return some kicks and punts early at Troy to spell star receiver Robert Woods at times on special teams.
Running back Curtis McNeal was academically ineligible this past season yet he is also a noted return man. With Thomas coming in and McNeal coming off an ineligible season, he could bolt out of Los Angeles.
Hayes Sticking With Michigan Could Impress Hoke
4 of 10
Hayes, once an Notre Dame commit, stated that even though their is no coach at Michigan at the moment he's still solid with the Wolverines.
Hayes is a unique player as he could have fit well in a role in Rich Rodriguez's offense as a runner and receiver, and yet could still be poised to be a solid fit in the assumed traditional offense Brady Hoke will likely run.
Players such as Fitzgerald Toussaint or Oneil Swanson may see the quickness, speed, and homerun ability of Hayes, combined with a new coaching hire and leave Ann Arbor.
Ken Guiton Could Look In The Mirror and See Braxton Miller
5 of 10
Terrelle Pryor has stated he is coming back to Oho State and will take his medicine by sitting out the first five games and then return.
Ken Guiton could be looking at those five games as a preview for his future, yet the incoming Braxton Miller will come to Ohio State with nearly as much hype as Ted Ginn, Beanie Wells, and Maurice Clarrett did when they stepped foot in Columbus.
Miller, from Ohio will be an instant fan favorite and could make Guiton feel unwanted.
Wittek and Kessler Could Make Scroggins Leave Los Angeles
6 of 10
A growing question among USC fans is what happens with the QB position if Matt Barkley goes to NFL after this 2011 season?
Jesse Scroggins is a super talented signal caller and has spent his freshman year learning Lane Kiffin's offense. He would be the ideal candidate to replace Barkley, yet with USC taking two QB's in Max Wittek and Cody Kessler, Scroggins could feel threatened.
This could get interesting, like when the Trojans had Carson Palmer and Jason Thomas in the fold. Or Matt Leinart, Matt Cassel, and Brandon Hance.
Hundley Could Be Top Bruin
7 of 10
UCLA jumped for joy when Brett Hundley announced he was committing to the Bruins in the early Fall. Hundley is a dual threat signal caller who dangerous throwing the football as he is running it.
Hundley may be the Bruins most hyped quarterback prospect since the transfer of Ben Olsen from BYU and may be a better fit for the pistol offense than Kevin Prince or Richard Brehaut.
Rick Nehuisel has not announced the fate of offensive coordinator Norm Chow and a philosophical difference seems to be afoot. Whoever is the Bruins' offensive general next season may want to start rebuilding with Hundley at the helm and not Prince or Breheaut.
Driskel Could Be Weis' Chosen One
8 of 10
John Brantley is staying at Florida, after he considered a transfer out of Gainesville. Brantley's transfer may have happened even if Urban Meyer and Steve Adazio had stayed around, yet the hiring of Charlie Weis reaffirmed his desire to remain a Gator.
Brantley should fit better in Weis' pro style system, yet Jordan Reed and Trey Burton clearly were Meyer guys.
Jeff Driskel is the quarterback prospect in the country and has all the tools to, after a year of being coached up by Weis, start in 2012 over Reed and Burton.
Blackwell and Farmer In Could Mean Carswell and Butler Out Of Troy
9 of 10
Victor Blackwell hails from a USC pipeline school in Mater Dei, which plays in arguably the top class of high school football in the country, and Blackwell has lit it up.
George Farmer is the best player in the state of California and he along with Blackwell could be poised to join top recent Trojan receiver recruits of Kyle Prater, Robert Woods, Dwayne Jarret, Kareem Kelly, Whitney Lewis, Mike Williams, Keary Colbert, and Steve Smith.
Brice Butler and Brandon Carswell have been patiently waiting for their chance to start at USC and the addition of Farmer and Blackwell could end up being another deterrent to their dreams, thus ushering the two talented receivers out of Heritage Hall.
Malcolm Brown Many Not Have Whitaker Feeling FOZZY
10 of 10
Malcolm Brown, the nation's top running back prospect, is also the nation's most college ready player. Brown has great size, speed, and strength and plays a position that does not take much time to translate into at running back.
Headed to Texas, Brown surely is an incoming threat to the carries that current Longhorn running backs Fozzy Whitaker and DJ Monroe are eyeing this year.
Major Applewhite and Bryan Harisin could be too much in awe of Brown's size, skill, and talents to not give him a fair share of carries early and often in his career in Austin.
