U.S. Army All-American Bowl 2011: Alabama and the Teams That Got Screwed
Wow. We're sure that there are many teams, coaches and fanbases that are still scratching their heads in confusion from the news surrounding the Army All-American game this afternoon.
As with all commitments and the normal occurrences in the cutthroat world of college football recruiting, there are some teams who feel they got a raw deal or the short end of the stick.
Here are some teams that got screwed today.
Tide Not Rollin'
1 of 9
When you have arguably the top coach and recruiter in college football today and you're a year removed from a national title, securing the top rated player in your state seems like a slam dunk, and it was.
Until today, when Russellvile (AL) LB Brent Calloway decided to de-commit after being an Alabama pledge for months. Not only is Calloway de-committing a huge blow for the Tide, but he decided to bolt for arch rival Auburn.
The source of his change is that Calloway feels he's a running back and 'Bama felt he was a linebacker.
Buckeye Blues

As all-star games begin to grow in importance, the risk of injury increases. Mark Cuban does not like his Mavericks players playing for their national teams due to injury risks, and soon enough college programs may start to influence players away from postseason all-star contests.
Ohio State may be one of the first programs to do so, as they watched their stud DT/OG prospect Michael Bennett suffer a broken arm in the third quarter of the U.S. Army All-American game.
Swann Doesn't Want to Feed UGA?

There was a feeling of serenity in Athens when Damian Swann announced his commitment to Georgia, yet we are getting word that Swann to UGA isn't a total slam dunk.
While Swann desires to be a Bulldog, he will keep his options open and continue to take his visits. So that serene feeling on the UGA campus now could develop into a feeling of confusion, and if Swann backs out of his pledge, then it could turn into a feeling of frustration.
Feelings can change like the wind, can't they?
Harbaugh to the 49ers Forces Langi to Stay at Home
4 of 9
Harvey Langi staying home to play for Utah has to be an indication of uncertainty within the Cardinal recruiting class resulting from Jim Harbaugh's departure to the 49ers.
Not only did Stanford lose out in its rock star-status head coach, but it also lost out on a great running back and maybe their next Toby Gerhart in Langi. Could more Stanford leans and Cardinal pledges follow Langi's example and look elsewhere?
Well, not exactly, as Wayne Lyons decided the draw of a degree on The Farm was too good to spurn and announced he will trek to Palo Alto next year. But losing out of Harbaugh and Langi is a blow to the Cardinal program.
Holliman Doesn't Want to Be Part of the Rebel Alliance

While getting Tobias Singleton was a great pickup for Ole Miss, the Rebels lost out to Louisville for Southridge (FL) defensive back Gerod Holliman, an original Mississippi verbal commitment.
Charlie Strong showed that just because he is in the Bluegrass State does not mean he has lost his ol' Sunshine State connections.
Strong is a defensive coach by trade and surely has big plans for a talented safety prospect like Holliman.
South Carolina Screwed: Does Townsend to Clemson Deliver Clowney to Tuscaloosa?
6 of 9
Come one. You thought it, too. We all did. Lateek Townsend was a Gamecock. We didn't write it in pencil, it was in permanent marker.
Townsend even told a few reporters and players on the sidelines it was South Carolina this morning. Then he pulled a fast one, donned an orange hat, and committed to Clemson.
South Carolina has to be feeling double screwed on this one as it could be curtains for their chances at No.1 overall recruit Jadeveon Clowney, as he and Townsend are great friends.
Alabama might not be so screwed after all.
Ole Miss (Again) and Mississippi State

Nickolas Brassell was expected to inform both programs of his decision and pick which side he would suit up for in the Egg Bowl.
Ole Miss had a chance to see a day where they landed both Tobias Singleton and Nickolas Brassell. It didn't happen.
MSU woke up this morning thinking this was the day they got their man in Brassell. It didn't happen.
Penn State, Notre Dame, Syracuse All Still Waiting...and Waiting...and Waiting

Remember the series finale of The Sopranos when the whole series was coming to a head in one final scene and the screen just went black?
Thats how Penn State, Notre Dame and Syracuse felt when they got word this morning that Lincoln (NY) defensive end Ishaq Williams would indeed not be making his college selection.
Williams had been expected to declare all week, but woke up and felt he still was not ready to choose.
The waiting continues for Nittany Lion, Orange and Irish fans.
Wolverines Scratch Themselves

Rich Rod's firing is causing for chaos not only in Ann Arbor but on the recruiting front as well. Dee Hart's de-commitment was a huge blow, and now Dillard (FL) defensive back Wayne Lyons has announced he will attend Stanford.
With a GPA equivalent to a lineman's 40 time, Lyons to Stanford seems like a great fit. Yet, Rich Rodriguez was instrumental in the high probablity of Lyons to Ann Arbor that once was.
Later, Kris Frost chose Auburn, and Rodriguez's firing was also a huge factor in his decision not to come to play for Big Blue. No coach means no dynamic safety or receiver for the Wolverines.
