U.S. Army All-American Bowl 2011: Breaking Down the Winners and Losers
The 2011 Army All-American game just wrapped up and as expected there were an array of big names who declared their college intentions. There also were some surprise commitments and even shocking decommitments.
As always with a game and event like this in the college football recruiting world, there are some players and programs who come out feeling like a million bucks while others may feel broke.
Check out who all the winners and losers were stemming from the big news surrounding the game.
Loser: Harvey Langi
1 of 13
Langi has been billed as a one-cut runner with good size and power who could fit well into a zone scheme or man-to-man scheme. He even stated he did not care much for the Utes' spread offense, yet he committed to Utah anyway.
Stanford has a power running attack where Langi could have become the next Toby Gerhart, and USC's offense is also a combo man/zone rushing attack where Trojan fans envisioned him as a possible Stanley Havili type.
Staying home is always a great thing for anybody, including Langi, but one has to question this decision from a football standpoint.
Loser: Jim Tressel

Centerville (OH) DT/OG Michael Bennett suffered a broken left arm in the third quarter.
Bennett has been looked at as a DT recruit all through the process, but Ohio State may have him become an offensive guard.
This was a chance for Tressel to see Bennett line up in the offensive trenches against top competition, and Bennett went down with an injury.
Loser: Miami

Gerod Holliman opened up his recruitment from Ole Miss, and as a Fort Lauderdale native, Al Golden's hire and aggressive recruiting at Miami should have made the hometown Hurricanes as alluring as they once were in the '90s.
Holliman spurned The U for Louisville. Then Odell Beckham also chose to take his talents away from South Beach and to LSU.
Miami just hasn't made the recruiting surge we expected and today was evidence of that.
Loser: Kris Frost to Play Receiver?

While Frost is a dynamic athlete and could potentially develop into a great receiver, we think he is making a negative football decision in stating he desires to take his first swing at the position at the next level.
Frost is just too good of a linebacker and his skill-set translates to that position better than it does at receiver.
Frost should rethink this and hopefully Auburn will deploy him to his best suited spot, linebacker.
Loser: USC

Lane Kiffin and Co. came into the game in the running for Viliami Moala, Colt Lyerla and Harvey Langi.
They got none of them. Not one, and what makes it worse is that all three bolted for rival Pac-12 schools in Moala to Cal, Lyerla to Oregon, and Langi to newcomer Utah.
The allure of Troy wasn't apparent today.
Winner: Florida State

While it took him a bit to get his engine going, FSU pledge James Wilder really came on late to show why he's so highly rated and capped it off by scoring a touchdown.
Couple Wilder's performance with Karlos Williams' highlight-reel game at the Under Armour contest and it is easy to see that FSU looks to be on its way back, and it's starting with recruiting.
Florida State comes out a winner today.
Winner: LSU

Odell Beckham Jr. will be a terrific slot receiver for the Baton Rouge boys. Beckham has great speed, quickness, change of direction, and playmaking ability.
He can also wind up at defensive back but has stated his desire to be a receiver.
Now the question becomes whether The Mad Hatter will be watching Beckham score touchdowns up close and personal, or from Ann Arbor?
Winner: Cal
8 of 13
The Berkeley Bears won a huge prize: Viliami Moala. Moala is a space-eating defensive tackle who will boost Cal's run defense for the next four years.
Another wrinkle is the Bears beat out recruiting juggernaut USC for a California player. USC almost always cleans up California and the Bears beat them out for Moala.
Moala is also a key pickup as arch rival Stanford employs a power, downhill rushing attack and Moala will be much needed help to combat the Cardinal annually in The Big Game.
Winner: Charlie Strong and Louisville
9 of 13
Strong showed that his reach into Florida is still long and active when he stole away Gerod Holliman of Southridge (FL).
Holliman was originally set for Ole Miss, yet Strong convinced him to come to Louisville.
A player with great instincts and ball skills, Holliman will line up at free safety for Strong at Louisville, and could also get a look at boundary corner due to his cover ability and willingness in run support.
Winner: Oregon

Oregon is sitting pretty these days. Great coach. Great facilities. Great campus. Phil Knight. Great uniforms.
Oh yeah, also the little game they're playing on Monday night in the desert.
But getting Colt Lyerla is a huge coup for Chip Kelly. Oregon gets a spectacular athlete with versatility to do everything for the Ducks' program. Lyerla could play Sam linebacker, defensive end or tight end, and terrorize on special teams for years to come in the Pac-12.
Winner: Ole Miss

The Rebels got a great deep threat in Tobias Singleton, who has a chance to impact as a freshman.
Ole Miss stuck it out with Singleton, who has been a soft verbal for months as he checked out Mississippi State and UCLA.
Loyalty won out with Ole Miss being the first team to offer Singleton a scholie, and he's now solidly a Rebel.
Winner: Jonathan Rose
12 of 13
Rose helped Auburn lure his good friend Brent Calloway to campus and stayed in his ear these past few weeks.
The two have been roommates on the all-star game circuit and Calloway stated that playing on the same squad with Rose was a huge factor in his decision to pull the switch to the Tigers.
Calloway will line up at running back at Auburn, and Rose likely figured he was better suited to watching Calloway run over defensive backs on the sidelines then actually watching Calloway run him over on another team.
Winner: Auburn

The Tigers not only sit pretty with a huge championship title shot in in Glendale set for Monday night, they also snagged the top player in Alabama, Brent Calloway, away from nemesis Alabama.
Auburn has told Calloway they will let him play running back, where he's more comfortable and desires to play in college. Alabama projected him as an outside linebacker—thus Calloway chose to become a Tiger.
Then later on in the afternoon, Kris Frost of Butler (NC) decided he would also play for Gene Chizik, who must decide if Frost will be a receiver or linebacker for the Tigers.
