2011 Under Amour High School All-America Game: Grading Skill Position Players
Some played well. Some didn't. Some surprised us. Some shocked us. The 2011 Under Armour All-American game is in the books and it featured some the very best prep football players in America.
We're going to grade the top skill position players and let you know who looked good and who may need some more seasoning.
22. Jarvis Landry
1 of 22
The LSU pledge saw plenty of action, ran solid and precised routes, and had a couple grabs.
With the limited quarterback play and only a few days to get in sync, there was not much Landry could do.
Grade: B-
21. Steve Miller
2 of 22
Miller is headed to Ohio State and felt honored to be selected to play in the game.
He was in on a few tackles and held his own.
Grade: B-
20. Anthony Wallace
3 of 22
Wallace line up at linebacker when he saw action and was charged to play run first.
We didn't hear his name called too often and the future Duck didn't make any jarring hits.
Grade: C
19. Travis Hughes
4 of 22
Hughes was another linebacker who was asked to play the run to stop the talented running backs of White team.
We feel he did a fair job.
Grade: C
18. Greg Townsend Jr.
5 of 22
Townsend committed to USC over TCU and followed his announcement with a solid game.
The defensive end made a few stops and was active throughout the contest.
Grade: B
17. Trey DePriest
6 of 22
DePriest, headed to Alabama played pretty well during the UA game.
He was in against the run and was active with the red team's coverage schemes.
Grade: B+
16. Desmond Jackson
7 of 22
Jackson was a monster all night and Mack Brown and perhaps Manny Diaz should be happy.
Jackson exploded off the ball, penetrated gaps, and played in the opposing backfield all night.
Grade: A-
15. Karlos Williams
8 of 22
Wow. We came into this game thinking that Williams would become an athletic outside linebacker at Florida State and after watching him tonight, he could be left at playing big strong safety.
Williams was a menace to the Red team and probably the best defensive player in the building. He had a crushing hit in the first half on AC Leonard, returned a punt, and then returned an interception for touchdown.
Grade: A
14. Josh Turner
9 of 22
Turner, a Texas Longhorn commitment, is listed as an athlete but will look to play corner or receiver in Austin.
He showed off his athleticism but didn't a big overall impact.
Grade: C
13. Jay Rome
10 of 22
Rome was billed as a match up problem for the Red team safeties all week, but he didn't impact the game like we expected.
Grade: D
12. Anthony Johnson
11 of 22
At first we were asking where Johnson was then, as the contest drew on, he started to make his presence known.
His highlight came on blocking Taylor Bertolet's initial field goal attempt in the closing seconds. Though it was wiped out, Johnson flashed his strength, quickness, and athletic potential within trenches.
Grade: B
11. Doran Grant
12 of 22
There's a saying, when you don't hear a corner's name called much, then he's doing something wright.
Grant's name wasn't called much as he wasn't tested very often. Oh yeah, he also verballed to Ohio State during the game too.
Grade: B
10. Brandon Williams
13 of 22
Among generally disappointing night for both team's running backs, Williams quietly was effective and had the best showing.
We liked his size, and he showed a bulkier frame than expected, while running tough inside to challenge Red team linebackers.
Grade: B-
9. Savon Huggins
14 of 22
Huggins go the starting nod over Isaiah Crowell for the Red squad. All week he had showed he had the potential to be an every down back at the next level.
He just didn't factor too much in this game.
Grade: C
8. Braxton Miller
15 of 22
Miller looked a bit rattled and didn't let his plays develop within the pocket.
He did show off his arm strength and athleticism, but never got in sync with the White team's receivers.
Grade: C-
7. Stephone Anthony
16 of 22
Anthony stuck his nose and plugged alleys vs the run during the UA game with consistency.
We expected a blasting hit or two, but maybe he was just being nice.
Grade:C+
6. Jeff Driskel
17 of 22
Driskel showed to be a more mobile athlete than advertised. He move around well and had a 63 yard TD run.
He also showed a cannon arm, driving the ball, and was victim to a Devon Blackmon drop on an incredible scramble and deep throw.
Grade: A-
5. Lawrence Thomas
18 of 22
Thomas is a big linebacker headed to Michigan State.
He was stout, played the run well and displayed some sideline to sideline ability.
Grade: B-
4. HaSean Clinton-Dix
19 of 22
Clinton-Dx was nowhere to be found on the back end.
What made it even worse was the sensational performance of fellow Sunshine State safety prospect Karlos Williams.
Grade: D
3. Mike Bellamy
20 of 22
Bellamy struggled, and this was shocking after a solid week of workouts.
While he had dazzling reverse field run in the third quarter, Bellamy had a fumble and struggled getting into a rhythm all game long.
Grade: D
2. Isaiah Crowell
21 of 22
Like Bellamy, Crowell just never could get going.
We did like that he looked bigger and bulkier than anticipated, but the talented runner just never got his engine out of stall.
Grade: D
1. Jadeveon Clowney
22 of 22
Clowney started slow, and we waited...and waited...and waited...
Then he exploded and we said "ahh there he is". Clowney was the focus of the White team's offensive line and still showed off his talent. He looked to have great length, athletic ability, quickness, speed and an ability to bend off the edge.
Grade: B+
