2011 Under Armour High School All-American Game: Doran Grant and Top Commitments
The 2011 Under Armour All-American Game ended with a 24-22 thrilling last-second victory by the Red Team over the White Team, but the action off the field was arguably just as intriguing as what went on between the hashmarks.
Eight recruits committed live during ESPN's broadcast of the game, six of which were four-star prospects or higher.
The group was headlined by five-star cornerback Doran Grant and five-star defensive end Greg Townsend, who committed to Ohio State and USC respectively.
Here's the scoop on all eight commitments.
8. 3-Star OG Marcus Jackson Commits to Tennessee over Miami, VT and GT
1 of 8
Three-star offensive guard Marcus Jackson, a Top 15 prospect at his position, committed to Tennessee over Miami, Virginia Tech and Georgia Tech.
“I’m going to be playing ball at the University of Tennessee,” Jackson said. “It’s all about family up there and an up-and-coming program, and I want to be a part of it.”
Jackson had initially committed to Miami, but after head coach Randy Shannon was fired, he decommitted and opened things back up.
A very intriguing offensive lineman, Jackson is a raw prospect with a ton of potential, and while many scouts feel he’ll need to time to develop, the coaching staff at Tennessee appears ready to see what he can do.
7. 3-Star CB Jabari Gorman Commits to Florida over Ohio State and Miami
2 of 8
3-star cornerback Jabari Gorman committed to Florida over Ohio State and Miami live at the Under Armour All-American Game.
Gorman is a versatile athlete who’s shown promise on both sides of the ball playing receiver, running back cornerback and safety.
Most scouts see his future on the defensive side of the ball though based on his ability to fly around the ball and consistently stick to his man downfield.
The first commitment under new head coach Will Muschamp, the former Texas defensive coordinator who replaced the departed Urban Meyer, Gorman helps bolster a class that appeared to be falling apart in the wake of Meyer’s departure in December.
6. 4-Star Safety Robenson Therezie Commits to Auburn over Florida and Alabama
3 of 8
Four-star safety Robinson Therezie committed to Auburn over Alabama and Florida at the 2011 Under Armour All-American Game.
Therezie said the decision came down to Auburn’s Business school; he plans to major in business while at Auburn.
Therezie is a versatile athlete that has the chance to line up at either cornerback or safety at the next level; he’s rated as the No. 18 safety by Rivals and the No. 24 cornerback by Scout.
He should be a solid addition for an Auburn class that’s expected to make up a lot of ground on the rest of the SEC after the Tigers dominating season.
5. 4-Star ATH Quan Bray Commits to Auburn over Alabama, Georgia, Florida and LSU
4 of 8
Four-star prospect Quan Bray is one of the most versatile athletes in the country and a legitimate prospect on either side of the ball.
Scouts project him at running back, wide receiver, cornerback and safety, and based on his athleticism, we have a feeling he'd be successful regardless of where you line him up.
One of the many stars in action tonight at the 2011 Under Armour All-American Game, Bray committed to Auburn tonight over Alabama, Georgia, Florida and LSU.
4. 4-Star Receiver Devon Blackmon Commits to Oregon over USC and UCLA
5 of 8
Four-star wide receiver Devon Blackmon, a prospect scouts around the country are in debate over, proved just how good he can be tonight at the 2011 Under Armour All-America Game.
Blackmon connected with five-star quarterback Brent Hundley for a 58-yard touchdown catch midway through the second quarter and really showed off his speed as he burned the secondary badly on the play.
Blackmon should be right at home at the next level after he committed to Oregon over USC and UCLA during a timeout in the third quarter of the game.
“When I went [to Oregon] for my trip it felt like a family,” Blackmon said after his commitment.
3. Xzavier Dickson Commits to Alabama over Georgia
6 of 8
Four-star defensive end Xzavier Dickson, the No. 12 prospect in the nation at his position, committed to Alabama over Georgia live at the 2011 Under Armour All-American Game.
It was reported earlier in the day that Dickson would leave his choice up to a coin flip but instead chose the Crimson Tide outright.
“It was too big of a decision to leave up to that,” Dickson said.
The type of prospect that just explodes into his opponent with a ton of power and quickness, Dickson has the chance to have an immediate impact at the next level.
2. 5-Star DE Greg Townsend Commits to USC over TCU
7 of 8
Five-star defensive end Greg Townsend, one of the top overall prospects in the country, committed to USC over TCU at the 2011 Under Armour All-America Game.
He joins one of the top recruiting classes in the country and will line up alongside five-star defensive end Jalen Grimble next season.
“USC, Baby. Go Trojans,” Townsend said.
Townsend is the son of former NFL star Greg Townsend Sr., who played his college ball at TCU and most of his pro career with the Los Angeles Raiders.
1. 5-Star Cornerback Doran Grant Commits to Ohio State over Michigan State
8 of 8
Five-star cornerback Doran Grant, the No. 1 prospect at his position, committed to Ohio State over Michigan State
“I will be attending The Ohio State University,” Grant said. “My relationship with the coaches was the greatest, I’m ready to be a part of the Buckeye family and do my part in Columbus.”
Grant is the best cornerback prospect in the country, rated No. 1 by Rivals and No. 2 by Scout. He's even better than advertised and definitely fits the bill at a generous 5'10" and 175 lbs.
He's lighting-fast, tests off the charts athletically, tackles with a lot of power and has a great nose for the ball.
