2011 Under Armour High School All-America Game: The 10 Biggest Disappointments
With such an array of surprises at such a huge event, there have to have been some disappointments. Sub-par performances, injuries, drops, fumbles, limited play, and quiet performances all happened during the contest.
Come inside and take a look at some of our biggest disappointments that took place during the Under Armour All-American game.
10. The Overall Play Of The Running Backs
1 of 10
This group certainly doesn't want for talent, and we expected some dazzle from the opening kickoff.
Each team's running back never truly got going and the best run of the night came from Red team QB Jeff Driskel with 63 yard TD run.
9. HaSean Clinton-Dix
2 of 10
With Karlos Williams having such a big game, we all wondered where was the other heralded safety prospect, HaSean Clinton-Dix.
Williams was all over the field, including his pick-six. Clinton-Dix wasn't as active.
It may be time to crown Williams as the top safety in this class
8. Jay Rome's Quiet Night
3 of 10
Rome has all the tools to wreak havoc in the seams from the tight end position, but we wondered he didn't wreak havoc in the UA game.
We didn't hear his name called often, if almost at all, throughout the night.
7. Nick Waisome
4 of 10
Waisome was begging quarterbacks to throw his way all week during practice, maybe he spoke too soon.
Waisome dropped two potential interceptions and had a questionable stop vs. Jarvis Landry that should have been called pass interference.
6. Mike Bellamy's Troubles
5 of 10
Bellamy showed up in Tampa to compete and made it known all week, even getting on a coach for not getting him ball in a team passing drill. He went hard in every drill and was in a serious mood.
With his 2nd quarter fumble, maybe he was pressing just a bit early on.
5. La'El Collins Getting Re-Injured
6 of 10
Collins is perhaps the top left tackle prospect in the land, yet we had gotten word he had battling an ankle injury all week. Collins then battled back and reved up our hearts to set on the highly anticipated match up of him vs. Jadeveon Clowney. I
n the middle of the second quarter, Collins left the game with another ankle/leg injury and never returned.
4. Isaiah Crowell's Struggles
7 of 10
Crowell looked very impressive physically, but struggled to get going early on...which lasted just about the whole game.
Hailed as one the very utmost elite rock toters in the country, we expected a more from Crowell.
3. Braxton Miller's Limited Action
8 of 10
Miller is hailed as the top dual threat quarterback and one the elite play makers in the country. While He did what he could while in, we expected him to be more dynamic than what he showed at the UA game.
While a few other QB's also had sub-par showings, Miller has accustomed us to hold him higher expectations.
2. Ditka Not Matching Wits With Steve Mariucci
9 of 10
With Mooch making classic statements like, ""this is good stuff, this is good television...our ratings are behind in the Lakers game", we'd thought Ditka would have been equally impressive with being mic'd up.
Ditka wasn't overly serious, but he just couldn't match up to the material Mariucci was cranking out.
1. It Had To End
10 of 10
The game got off to a slow start but it seems like the players settled in after the break and started to let their talents and skill sets be on full display.
The White team was led down the field by Max Wittek to take a one point lead in crunch time, then the Red proceeded to march back down and get into field goal range.
Taylor Bertolet's first field goal attempt was blocked by Anthony Johnson, but the white team was penalized for using an illegal rush, prohibited by rules of the all-star game. Bertolet nailed his second try, thus Mariucci was dosed in red Gatorade.
