UFC: Will Campuzano vs. Chris Cariaso Slated for UFC Fight Night 23

Dale De SouzaJan 10, 2011

The Fight for the Troops 2 card is shaping up to be pretty wild and exciting for a UFC Fight Night card.

Headlined by a showdown between Melvin Guillard and Evan Dunham and co-headlined by a Matt Mitrione-Tim Hague heavyweight matchup, the card has added an exciting bantamweight battle to the already action-packed card.

MMA Junkie reports that that battle will feature UFC newcomer Chris "Kamikaze" Cariaso and former WEC standout fighter Will Campuzano.

A veteran of 11 fights in MMA, Campuzano was one half of the first official UFC bantamweight fight in the wake of the UFC-WEC merger, though the fight was changed to a catchweight bout when Nick Pace came in over the 135-lb. weight limit.

The weight cut did no favors to Campuzano, who succumbed to an armless triangle choke dubbed by some as "The Pacemaker" and others as simply "The Pace Choke."

Meanwhile, Cariaso comes into this fight as a young prospect with only two losses by respective ways of TKO due to punches and submission due to a rear naked choke.

The submission loss came at WEC 53 when Renan Barao caught the "Kamikaze" at 3:47 of round two, adding a 25 win in a row to a then 24-1-1 record and closing out his WEC career at 2-0, and handing Cariaso his second career loss in the process.

Most of Cariaso's wins come by way of knockout, as do the majority of Campuzano's career wins.

If you haven't seen a bantamweight fight at all since first discovering MMA, you're in for a treat come Jan. 22.
