15 College Football Coaches Who Should Be Fired But Won't
Reports surfaced yesterday afternoon that the Michigan head football coach had been fired, but Michigan athletic director Dave Brandon denied the reports and told ESPN a decision had not been made. The two met yesterday and are supposed to meet again today.
As of today, Rich Rodriguez h
Let's consider these 15 names.
15. Paul Wulff, Washington State

Director of athletics Bill Moos came out early last month and said in a statement that he's sticking with Wulff and that his goal is to see "Cougar football be successful and compete for championships."
Baby steps, Bill. Let's work on reaching a .500 record first. That would be a small miracle there.
14. Greg Schiano, Rutgers

How long do you let a coach live off one season?
Schiano was once the hot item among potential college coaches to hire.
I wonder if he still carries that same weight.
13. Joe Paterno, Penn State
3 of 15
Yes, he's a college legend, and you can't help but love JoePa, but you do realize what could potentially happen the longer he coaches?
Here's hoping for continued good health, coach.
I want him to go out on top with a Big Ten championship and BCS Bowl victory, not a broken hip or worse.
12. Dennis Erickson, Arizona State
4 of 15
Athletic director Lisa Love said Erickson will return in 2011, adding she was impressed with the team's recruiting and talent.
Since going 10-3 in his first season in 2007, Erickson is 5-7, 4-8 and 6-6. Not exactly the way to inspire your fan base.
11. Bo Pelini, Nebraska
5 of 15
It's one thing to lose to Texas, but then to follow that with a 19-7 loss to then 6-6 Washington in the Holiday Bowl? That's inexcusable.
If Pelini can't beat the Huskies, you have to wonder if Indiana and Minnesota are going to give him headaches next year in the Big Ten.
10. Jeff Tedford, Cal
6 of 15
He may churn out talented players, but Cal's already been passed up by Jim Harbaugh and Stanford when it comes to establishing a healthy, growing program.
Tedford can at least be thankful that UCLA is at least still struggling.
9. Pat Hill, Fresno State
7 of 15
It's hard to picture them being anymore competitive when they move to the Mountain West.
You've got to love coaches who will take on college football's big boys, but will fans always be satisfied with eight-win seasons and being "competitive"?
8. Bob Toledo, Tulane
8 of 15
Toledo actually had his contract extended a year, with an option for a third year.
Pretty incredible considering he is 13-35 at the school, and his best single-season record is 4-8.
Don't buy into the notion, either, that academic schools can't be successful in football.
TCU has provided the blueprint on how to do this.
7. Mike Price, UTEP
9 of 15
He's had five straight losing seasons since posting consecutive 8-4 records in his first two years with the Miners.
His teams haven't finished better than third in the Conference USA West Division in that span.
6. Ron Zook, Illinois
10 of 15
It's not that his teams haven't had their chances and had the ability to be successful.
It's just that they have never lived up to their potential.
5. Dabo Swinney, Clemson
11 of 15
He's been able to remain with the Tigers, but has already had to part ways with offensive coordinator Billy Napier and running backs coach Andre Powell.
Were they really the problems?
4. Kirk Ferentz, Iowa
12 of 15
Hey, let's guess what will happen in 2011: The Hawkeyes will begin the year highly ranked (around 11th or 12th), mentioned as a contender for the Big Ten title, then end up losing another three or four games.
3. Bill Stewart, West Virginia
13 of 15
Will he truly be coaching next year in his final year before he retires, or will this be like when Bobby Bowden was just standing around with Jimbo Fisher waiting to take over at Florida State?
Dana Holgorsen should be allowed to take over now, and not have to wait another year.
2. Mark Richt, Georgia
14 of 15
This marriage isn't going to be salvaged, and you know the fans will be restless.
He's too good of a coach, and too good of a man to let him endure another year like this.
Better for both parties to part ways now, and let Richt get a fresh start elsewhere.

It was only a matter of time...
